Our new Hombu location within Van Nuys, CA is surrounded by all types of MA; it's no surprise because, and it's not intentional, from any compass point, one will find quite a lot of MA schools on the way to our Hombu. San Fernando Valley is literally a wash of MA schools, in short, they're EVERYWHERE!! One would trip over one without trying to.

Well, on my way from my house to the dojo, I pass by about 15 other martial arts schools, if you're only counting the ones closest to the roads I take. There are probably double that if you extend the radius another mile or so.

Not surprising because Phoenix, AZ isn't a small town, and it's been known to be one of the bedrocks of the MA.

Indeed! There are certainly over 100 martial arts schools in the metro area, and with Trias starting his dojo here, the history is definitely longer than most in the US, outside of Hawaii. My Sensei actually has the kamiza from the Trias dojo, and we display it in our dojo.

So, this post really did get me interested in just how many MA schools are open within my city.

...

In a city of 76,000... We have 38 individual schools listed on google.

To search for the old is to understand the new.

The old, the new, this is a matter of time.

In all things man must have a clear mind.

I pass two or three depending on route.

Has anyone ever not passed the MA schools that they drive by on the way to wherever they're going?? Just to check them out; satisfy some type of curiosity?? If so, what was your first/last impression(s)??

America seems to be big on MA.

In the UK its not as popular, I think it is a dying interest over here. Its a sad thing nowadays that people think they can walk into a dojo and get a black belt in a few months.

If that indeed is true about the MA is a dying interest over in the UK; that's depressing at all levels!! How is the MA a dying interest in the UK?
