rabid hamster Posted October 31, 2002 Posted October 31, 2002 if you take muay thai is it considered normal for you to get black eyes and bruises on other places of your body? i was jus thinkin about this muay thai place near by.. but then i dun wanna go to school with a black eye or anythin like that... It is only with the heart that one can see clearly, for the most essential things are invisible to the eye.
Thai_Kick Posted October 31, 2002 Posted October 31, 2002 It's only normal if you fight or spar, if you choose not to or use only light contact then you won't get bruises or a black eye, but then this defeats the purpose of Muay Thai and for you to become an effective fighter. Plus you being a beginner, you won't spar for at lease 3 months so don't worry. When you do start sparring then you will get bruised ribs from knee strikes, if you have virgin shins then they will be extremely soar, also welts on your thighs will be common from the cut kicks. This is how Muay Thai training is, it's not "tag" sparring, it's not point-sparring, it's not step sparring, if you punch, kick or knee your partner hard then they will do the same or harder. You HAVE to learn how to take a punch or kick and smile back with a counter! Try a class out, if it's too much for you then don't do it, if you like it then stay and train! GOOD LUCK! Limits Are Not Accepted. They Are Elbowed, Kicked And Punched.
Karateka_latino Posted November 1, 2002 Posted November 1, 2002 I wonder how can a person who have a job which depends on there looks.. like models or actor .... Can practice Muay Thai without losing there jobs by showing next day for a photo shoot with blacks eyes and knocked down teeths. lol
kicker Posted November 2, 2002 Posted November 2, 2002 Yes well I do Muay Thai and I get brusies once in a while or even cuts sometimes injuryed but not badly or anything. when you do your best it`s going to show. "If you watch the pros, You will learn something new"
Tyler1032 Posted November 3, 2002 Posted November 3, 2002 Bruises sometimes , i think the worst that happened in my class is some guy got a broken nose because he didn't block an elbow with the thai pad proparly.
rabid hamster Posted November 3, 2002 Author Posted November 3, 2002 It would be a bit awkward going to school with a blackeye. Last time some girl did it everyone asked her if she got into a fight. I mean everyone in the whole school, lol. I think I will take muay thai though... Uhh hope it doesn't hurt too much when you sparr... Do you ever get used to the pain? It is only with the heart that one can see clearly, for the most essential things are invisible to the eye.
Punchdrunk Posted November 3, 2002 Posted November 3, 2002 I'm an actor. This summer I was on hold for a commercial. That means I was in heavy consideration but they hadn't firmly booked me yet. In one of the dumbest decisions of my life I took a kick boxing match the weekend before the shoot was supposed to happen. I won but I got a serious cut along my left eyebrow and two black eyes. It was pure luck that made the booking for the following Friday or I would have been majorly fired off the set. Unless you are famous, producers and clients do not care that makeup can fix it, they don't want the hassle. All week long I put on makeup to go to auditions. I filled in the cut with baby powder and layers of base. Immediately after the audition I washed it out and prayed to St. Genesius, patron Saint of actors, to help me heal. I don't advise messing with a cut that way but you've got to do what you've got to do to make a living when you have the added burden of being a functional moron. I drank gallons of water, put on vitamin E and K on the bruises, and slept as much as I could. By the day of the shoot, there was just a thin pink line along the eyebrow. This was lucky as there was no makeup artist on the set. A national commercial for a major client and no makeup. The director wanted a "real" feel. He almost got more than he bargained for. The result of all this is that I now have to clear every fight through my wife and she does not have to apologize for anything for a year for the stress I caused. One cannot choose to be passive without the option to be aggressive.
Karateka_latino Posted November 3, 2002 Posted November 3, 2002 I'm an actor also... that's why i care a lot when im doing stand up, kick/punch sparring.
Punchdrunk Posted November 3, 2002 Posted November 3, 2002 Also make sure your partners clip their nails when you grapple with them. Once I got some "tiger claw" marks on my head from a guy who didn't. Nasty looking. One cannot choose to be passive without the option to be aggressive.
