DWx Posted May 12, 2015 Posted May 12, 2015 Skip to 1 hour 20 mins for a special demonstration by the ITF demonstration team and to 2 hours for the WTF team. Amazing milestone for both WTF and ITF Taekwondo to share the same stage at such a prominent event. "Everything has its beauty, but not everyone sees it." ~ Confucius

sensei8 Posted May 14, 2015 Posted May 14, 2015 Thanks for sharing these, Danielle!! I thoroughly enjoyed them ALL!! And I concur...it's a milestone for these two governing bodies to share the same floor in such a respectable manner. If these two can do this, the future surely looks promising for all. I was pleasantly surprised, and I shouldn't be, to see that the arena was packed to the rafters, and the crowd received BOTH teams with equal enthusiasm!! **Proof is on the floor!!!
bushido_man96 Posted May 14, 2015 Posted May 14, 2015 I haven't got to watch all of it, but there are some fun demos in there. You can definitely see the technical differences in the two styles, including the different flair to each of their demos. A great contrast. DWx Posted May 14, 2015 Author Posted May 14, 2015 I think it's great. ITF World's are later this year I'm Bulgaria so will see if the invitation is extended back the other way. I've seen the ITF demo team perform at a couple of these so would be good to see the WTF team there too. What I like is the difference shown between the 2 styles and the areas each choose to put emphasis on. For ITF it's power and strength whereas for WTF it's finesse and athleticism. Perhaps it could lead to some joint ITF/WTF demo teams?...What I like is the difference shown between the 2 styles and the areas each choose to put emphasis on. For ITF it's power and strength whereas for WTF it's finesse and athleticism.I agree, I see this as well. You can also see the difference in how they kick, with the round kicks in the ITF being more "traditional" and the ones in the WTF having more of the 45 degree angle to them. You can see how the differences in the two lend themselves to the strong points you emphasized. And its not just that technique, but so many of them. I also noticed how the WTF demo members tended to be more upright more often that the ITFers were. https://www.haysgym.comhttp://www.sunyis.com/https://www.aikidoofnorthwestkansas.com

Even if you take how they do middle blocks or guarding blocks it is noticeably different. Even the build of each team is different. The ITF guys physically look more built whereas the WTF guys are smaller framed which emphasizes the power vs finesse thing even more. sensei8 Posted May 16, 2015 Posted May 16, 2015 I wish that both governing bodies can do something that's quite unheard of...Become as ONE governing body. To illustrate to the world that styles are nothing more than just a word that means separation, and in that, unity can be a reality!!But, that's just the wishes of an old man, I suppose. **Proof is on the floor!!!

Yeah, I truly think that ship has sailed, it won't return to dock. But, at the same time, its nice to see what each organization has to offer. https://www.haysgym.comhttp://www.sunyis.com/https://www.aikidoofnorthwestkansas.com

Almost completely different styles of martial arts now. Personally I'd love to have a unified ITF. Since the General's death it just seems to be getting more and more fractured and fragmented.
