I came across this video about the kung fu bow stance. He's a little long winded but it's consistent with what my own experience has been so I'm curious what other people think?

That video was over 14 minutes long. Very long-winded. I get it he wants to speak to the most common denominator..the folks who know nothing about MA. A few times I was given the impression he was almost trying to convince himself. It would have been easier if the sound was better, too. I found it a bit difficult to follow.

As for the stance itself, shown at 1:48, I haven't seen it used in any system I've studied. It seems reasonable given the intent and technique to the style, though.

I practice hung gar and practice bo stance! I have never seen it like this but maybe it's accurate to how he was taught. For me it is a horse stance that is MUCH deeper. The front thight is parallel to the floor in Bo stance! Toes are normal, or at a 45 degree angle on lead foot. The angle he was at looks scary for a non-flexable hip. Especially if you were to perform quickly.

So I googled it just to see what was common, which I was interested to see if what I was saying was more common or not. Right on the first page after typing in "bow and arrow stance hung gar" this was there. Seems to be almost exact ally what I was taught and how I practice it. Front foot at 45 as I said and thigh parallel to the floor.

It's the Dingji Ma from Hung Sing Choy Lee Fut. More closely related to the Futsan Hung Sing CLF brought to the US by Lau Bun in the 20's.

It's not the same as a bow & arrow stance. The feet aren't at a matched 45 degree angle. That would be Bow & Arrow or Waan Gong Ma. We use that for moving forward. The Dingji Ma isn't a forward directing posture.

At least in my experience with it so far.

Again sifu? Yes sifu!
