The belt system is a Japanese and korean thing. Orignally you only had white belts and black belts. White signals purity and black the ablilty to kill someone, as most Dan grades can. Then as the black wore off the black belt, it would return more white, so returning to purity with the techniques you have learnt, so coming full circle.

The sashs in Chinese MA, are more to signify the style. So Red is tiger, gold is dragon, green is mantis or snake (cant remember) etc.....

There is no such grading system in Chinese Martial arts. So it could either be a westernised version or alas a mcdojo to pull people though the door.

Take Care.

Kensai, a lot of martial arts schools now use belt systems even if they aren't traditionally included...it's so much easier to see progression in students that way, even if there are only 4 or 5 levels.

I know, I just dont think you need your progression stated in a colour of a belt or sash. It's not really important.

wing chun originally doesn't have a sash but some schools add them. willian chuengs traditional wing chun has sashes...

It is only with the heart that one can see clearly, for the most essential things are invisible to the eye.

The Wing Chun school I'm in uses belts in order to signify a division in skill, but mainly it's for the people that like to have that extra bit of colour on their waist.

White

Yellow

Orange

Green

Blue

Brown

My first post..hi everybody..

There isnt a belt graduation/progress in Wing Chun, you know where you are in the progress scale by the form you are studying.

Siu Lim Tao, Chum Kiu, and Biu Gee. There´s an additional form that involves a Mook Yan Jong, or Wooden Monkey. And to finish the system there are two sets of weapons the Look Dim Book Kwan, or six and a half point stick; and the Bot Cham Do, or the 8 ways cutting swords.

i´m in Chum Kiu.

ok, now go listen to slayer!
