2015 Martial Arts Goals

Recommended Posts

Okay, since we started the wrap and review of the 2014 goal list, I feel that I'd be remiss if we didn't kick off a 2015 thread as well. So, here we go :)

What's everyone's 2015 Martial Arts Goals? I'll put some thought in myself and be back.

I can't say "get my black belt" because that's really out of my hands (though I am hopeful for getting it in 2015), but I want to work in a more systematic way on the requirements for my shodan test to ensure I'm prepared when I am granted the opportunity to test. I've already created a google doc with the physical and academic requirements and have been going though every so often and adding to pages of style history, kata history, sequence write ups, etc.

I've also been considering for awhile starting a small after school "karate club" at the middle school at which I work-- I've been working on creating a 2 year rotating beginners curriculum bringing them through the first four belts of our Isshinryu program for transfer into our school (if they'd like) after completion. I'd like to at least present my proposal to the principal. After I present it, it'll be up to her, of course, if she'd like to actually pursue it.

Here are my Martial Arts goals for 2015.

1; make an attempt at learning my Shorinji Ryu Kata.

2; pass my Aikido grading in March.

3; Have a better diet and have a healthier outlook.

4; attend Dean Rostohar's seminar in Dublin in September.

5; let negative experiences go and look to the future in a good light.

Look to the far mountain and see all.

Keeping it simple...

1. Make it to as many workouts as I can.

2. Learn at least 1 new kata (which will take a few promotions).

3. Improve on strength/fitness.

4. Enjoy the experience (if it isn't fun it isn't worth doing).

Most of mine will center around more DT training...

1. Provide at least 10 training opportunities for my department and surrounding agencies for Defensive Tactics. This gives me two months out of the year for leeway on any unforeseen circumstances that might arise in life or work. I think I have a schedule laid out, and may have a location locked down, as well. I just have to implement it.

2. Re-certify in GRACIE for the department.

3. Hit another DT certification course, or hit one of the Aikido seminars that happen here in town.

I don't have any TKD testings in site any time soon, so I think this will work for me this year.
