Does it have katas, or forms? Various stances? I'm just trying to learn more about the art.. I'm trying to choose an art to go to and Kyokushin i sone of my choices.. So if anyone has any information could you pass it on? I heard that they hit you with a staff or stick.. Is that body hardening and is it really worth it? :)

Kyokushin; Kyoku (ultimate) and Shin (reality or truth) it's a hard style of karate well known for its realistic full-contact style of fighting. It was developed during the 1930's, 40's and 50's by the founder, Sosai Masutatsu Oyama, 10th Dan. As other styles of Karate Kyokushin contains kata's and other traditional elements (stances, strikes...) If your looking to become tough and a well trained fighter then Kyokushin is for you.

Limits Are Not Accepted. They Are Elbowed, Kicked And Punched.

Yes kyokushin has katas but I heard they were different from traditional ones. Like no low stances. And they are called fighting kata.. or something and will help you in fighting a lot compared to traditional katas(from what ive read).

It is only with the heart that one can see clearly, for the most essential things are invisible to the eye.

Arys:

Kyokushin uses most of the traditional stances you would find in

other Japanese based styles like Shotokan or Goju.

we also use all the traditioanl kata such as pinan kata.

there are over 20 in the whole system. the response about

non traditional kata in Kyokushin is incorrect.

But primarily the style is known for kumite. this is what i guess

you could say we "specialize" in. Knockdown fighting.

Getting hit with a stick is pretty much a thing of the past.

they used to use a Shinai to strike practitioners to correct form.

Body Hardening is done sparately and is simialr to the practices

of other styles such as Uechi ryu, Isshin ryu, etc.

Good luck! go watch a few classes and see if it is for you.

The "fighting katas" referred to are from Enshin karate, which is famous for the Sabaki method. It is linked to Kyokushin by the heritage of it's founder and it's famous"Sabaki Challenge" knockdown tournemant held every year in Denver.

Kyokushin is an outstanding style. If you want to learn how to really fight in the karate style under intense conditions. If you would rather learn the principles under less stressful circumstances and study point fighting to perfect the form of the technique without heavy contact, there are a lot of excellent systems that would be more appropriate.

One cannot choose to be passive without the option to be aggressive.
