Gear bag

Looking for a large backpack gearbag.

Datsusara has some pretty sweet gear, and since they make it out of hemp fabric, it's tougher than cotton, naturally antimicrobial, and UV resistant. If you have the money to spend, I would highly recommend them. They're good people, too.

There are some duffel bags that convert to backpacks that might work for you. They're narrower and longer than the Battlepack Pro and don't have as many features, but the volume might be similar and they're a lot cheaper. They have handles and a shoulder strap like a duffel bag, but also straps in a pocket that can be pulled out and clipped for backpack use.

We used to have an Adidas bag like this, but it was discontinued. It's similar to this one at AWMA (but not exactly the same), and the price was a lot less than this one.

I probably shouldn't say anything without confirming, but I've heard a rumor that the quality of the AWMA Adidas bags isn't as good as the quality of the Adidas bags we sold. I heard they were made by different factories. Again, I have not confirmed that there is any problem with these bags in general. I just heard that one dojo that had problems with several of the bags. Maybe they just got a bad batch.

Anyway, I like the versatility of this type of bag. We're out of a Tokaido brand version that I think retailed for something like $60 or $70. Maybe you can find something similar somewhere else. Maybe for less if it's not a name brand.

I've had my eye on this bag for a while and I've been trying to justify why I might buy it, I hadn't thought of using it as a gear or gi bag... hmm... that might be all the justification I need...?

I can just picture it from days gone by, "Here's the bad news guys, weapons have been prohibited all over the kingdom... but don't worry, check this luxurious leather bag I have to carry my gear in!"

What kind of size do you need? Other features?

FWIW although not martial arts themed, Jansport bags have a lifetime guarantee, so if it gets broken, it gets repaired.

I really like the datsushara bag- but ouch- 140 is quite pricey for me for a gear bag - I mean it's all relative, considering that it's not something that really needs to perform like a dogi, it's literally the place I put my training gear. I could probably find a cheap duffle for $25 and it would suffice for a while but I saw a jansport that may fit the bill.

I did teater for a minute there.

I would rather have another dogi and a $70 bag.

Great, which one did you pick in the end?

I've had mine for about 10 years. Heavily abused it during college and then university and when travelling. Only thing that's gone is one of the buckles. I've thought about looking at sending it in but not sure if the warranty terms are the same in the UK, besides the buckle is non essential.

That's really nice... Not sure I could justify throwing a sweaty gi and all my equipment in there after training.
