Hey all, while I'm sharing stuff we're doing, I thought this might be of interest to the grapplers on the site. We've recently spend quite a bit of time training the guard pass. Core to that, to my mind, is the double under and over/ under passes. They've gotten overlooked in recent years with the advent of the standing guard pass, but they are still critical (in my mind) to not only tactics but to the evolution of one's game.

Of particular interest to me is the over under. This is a pass I see get tossed aside with far too much frequency at blue belt level. It's a high percentage pass, but the details have to be right.

Here's a review I did after last week for our guys to touch on those details:

Hope it's of interest.

I've heard it said before by many that grapplers can't jam techniques while on the ground, and to that I continue to say....grapplers are jamming techniques all day long, and you showed it by jamming the triangle effectively, as it should be. In Shindokan, our guard pass is quite similar at each of the phases that you demonstrated in your video.

Btw, EXCELLENT video, as always. I do wish, at times that you'd show the application normal speed, either at the beginning or the end of your videos, even though your video is for learning the nuances of said application/technique.

You're an excellent instructor, through and through. Btw, I think I've asked this of you before, but, what camera do you use?

Thanks for sharing, Alex!!

Thanks, sensei8.

I use a Flip. I'm looking at a Go Pro but haven't taken the bite yet.

You're welcome, tallgeese!!

Flip? Hhmmm!! Go Pro? Hhmmm!! I'll take a look at them. Thanks!!

I'm learning that edit software isn't cheap...have you found it to be that same??

I haven't started working a ton with editing to be honest. I'm more of a one take and out guy. Warts and all. It's more indicitive of my teaching style. That said, what I have done, particularly when cutting specific sections of longer videos out for teaching points on the channel, is use Windows Movie Maker.

As far as I know, it comes with the basic Office suite and it's done everything I need it to. You can add and subtract audio. Cut, add, add animations, ect. It's been pretty good so far. Not truly professional to be honest, but good enough for my purposes.

We're doing stuff primarily for our members and extended family, not truly for marketing externally (although we have gotten a few hits from it that way) so high end isn't required.

Second good video Tallgeese. I know I will be on the receiving end of it soon enough. And now I have to try to work to that position so i can drill it live too.

On video editing and such, you may want to give PittbullJudoka a yell. He's been putting together video and instructionals for us for a long time and has dealt with several editing programs.

Here you go sir. Pardon the redneck in front of the camera. This is a fraction of the video we have shot over the years. Both straight footage of us rolling/sparring to kata, technical break downs etc. Most of it is stored waiting for up load etc. [/url]
