Karate-Gi for Fullcontact

Featured Replies

what is better for fullcontact training and competition?

100% cotton gi s or polyester-cotton?

heavy (12oz,14,oz) or lighter gi?

Cotton!

No question! ...

Well to be honest, its more what feels right for you!

Cotton is a better feel to me and a 'heavy' cotton Gi makes for a perfect combination as far as I am concerned, I struggle to feel comfortable in a 'light gi.

Some of the guys have 'light' cotton gi's and seem more than happy, but like I say its a personal thing, it feels right or not only you can say.

Tsuma,

what is your system?

How long have you been doing it?

It's a matter of preference really. Find out what suits you and wear it. As simple as that.

For me: cotton, hands down. And heavy. 14oz, maybe lighter pants. Short jacket sleeves, long wide pants, almost 70s style. :D

Great brands:

- ISAMI (of course). Great quality, but ridiculously expensive.

- Kwon Full contact in the 12 oz version. My all-time favourite dogi.

- Danrho Mejiro.

The latter ones are of great quality, great knockdown look, very affordable, a pretty good alternative to ISAMI.

I train in Kyokushin and I bought a Heavy 100% cotton gi from Century. Our dojo gets 50% from century so thats what we chose. I find 100% cotton is pretty good.

Yups I'd agreewith that and add/offer into the mix;

IchiBan do a pretty darn good Kyokushin gi (under license I'll add) for about half the price of Isami!

I have this gi and it feels great, works well and after a bit of sweat and blood lokos the same as well ! :rofl2:

(hmmm ... that reminds me must get a second suit, might make no2 gi an Isami!)
