While on vacation

Recommended Posts

Hey guys

Getting back from our vacation and realize that I worked cardio everyday - in truth running is a great way to see the sights - but took the week off from pure MA exercises to give the mind and body a break. Curious as to what others do while on vacation...

I actually just got back from a week vacation, during which time I also had the flu. Let's just say, I didn't really feel up to training when I had to use all my energy to do all the hiking we had to do. I did practice a little bit of kata, as well, but otherwise my only exercise was the hiking.

Normally, I work on my kata every day, and work in some bodyweight exercises--push-ups and sit-ups, at least. If I can find something to do dips or pull-ups on, I'll do those, as well.

A flu while on vacation - bad luck !!!

Hope you're feeling better.

Interesting about practicing your kata. I thought about practicing forms but get uneasy about training in 'public'.

Failed to mention that I do stretches each evening since flexibility, and cardio for that matter, are hard to gain and ridiculously easy to lose.

I am, thanks!

Typically, I'll practice kata wherever I am staying. On this particular vacation, we also went to some beaches that had very few people present, so I didn't feel awkward about practicing there. When there are lots of people around, but I feel the need to practice, I will usually practice kata or techniques that tend to be more circular, and practice them slowly. Nobody really cares about the guy doing tai chi ;)

Wastelander and Archimoto,

Glad that you're both back from your vacations and that you and yours all had fun...except for the flu!!

My wife, at times, will put a muzzle on my vacation workouts because it's her/our time to recharge the batteries. I told her, "Honey, that's how I relax and recharge my batteries"...then...I get the look, you all know the look...then I resist with all of my fiber from working out. I can sneak on, but, it would be my head if she caught, especially after she's given that look!!

Welcome back you two!!

:)

Thanks Sensei8

She sounds like a smart lady!

Funny, I totally know "the look" and have learned to never, under any circumstances whatsoever, ignore the look!!!

Great being back thank you !!

It depends on where I go. This last weekend I traveled to So. Dakota for a family wedding & a funeral. Five days of visiting & eating way too much & no energy to train. Staying with family that don't really know me (wife's family) makes it hard to do the things I normally do. But if I go home to see my folks in Chicago I always make sure I train. I can insist & no one questions it.

If we go somewhere purely for fun, it's a struggle to workout, honestly. I have to really pack & plan for it. When I do that, I will train.

I find a jiu-jitsu school and train there. If there's no Jiu-Jitsu school... I don't go.

Vacation for me is vacation. Its time with the family, doing family stuff. I don't worry too much about working out or anything like that. Its a good time to let the body rest and recharge.
