niel0092
Hi folks. I was looking at this site the other day and was thinking of checking out the school. Take a look and tell me what you think. http://www.hwarangdomn.com/ I've done about two years of TKD but hwarangdo looks like it's got some other cool things to learn (weapons, trapping, ground fighting) while at the same time keeping the stand up striking and ethical code that makes TKD right for me. Well, it should I guess, being from Korea. Also, to give you an idea of where I'm comming from, here's the link to my current school. http://www.mntaekwondocenter.com Thanks! SBN Doug
Yeah, I've read some on HRD. It's in the MA lineage chart I posted a link to in this forum. It's not pure HRD from thousands of years ago, but it still seems quite comprehensive. It shows many similarities to Hapkido and my personal favorite Kuk Sool Won. niel0092
Thanks KSN that site was pretty cool. They do seem to have a, umm, bit of a HRD slant to the history though. I'm going to check out the school on Tuesday. I'll let you know how it goes. "Jita Kyoei" Mutual Benefit and Welfare
rabid hamster
The hwarangdo school sounds good. And if it's a hwarangdo school you know it can't be a mcdojo. (since they have that copyright thing) It is only with the heart that one can see clearly, for the most essential things are invisible to the eye. SBN Doug
Yep, that's the problem with Korean history. Each martial art tends to throw the slant toward itself...including my own. SBN Doug
Hey niel0092, If you're still looking at HRD, you might want to read through this. http://www.hwarang.org/Personal.html http://www.hwarang.org/Warning.html Looks like some interesting links between HWD, my Kuk Sool Won, and Hapkido. Also some skeltons in the closet. What you can't find on the web nowadays. Kuk Sool Won - 4th danEvil triumphs when good men do nothing.
niel0092
Very intersting. I'm sure that alot of this sort of thing happens in the MA world. Instructors invariably want to show a lineage that strenghthens the claim that their art is "true" or "good" for lack of better words. Others claim something else, emotions get caught up in the mess... Ah, the evils of the marketing department. On a side note the HWD school was just too far away for me to make it to consistantly. Fully across town through rush hour 3+ times a week was just to aggrivating. Not good to increase stress when stress releaf is one of the reasons I do MA. The search for a new school continues... SBN Doug
Because there are always two sides to every story, and we do not want to seem like we're taking sides, I'm posting the following link to the HRD website. It gives their point of view of the previous links I posted. It just took me a while to remember where to find it. http://www.hwarangdo.com/judicial/judicial1%20revised%206-5-01.htm Kuk Sool Won - 4th danEvil triumphs when good men do nothing.
