In my system of kempo we start with the:

Bo@8th kyu(purple belt), and then again at 6th kyu(blue belt)

Sai@5th kyu(adv blue belt)

Nunchuck@2nd kyu(brown belt)

Back to Sai@1st kyu(adv brown belt)

Then for 2nd dan we learn all weapons, nunchuck, sai, and balisong

Just an addition to the above post.........

We still train in all the weapons no matter how high the rank. For example, I just passed my 3rd kyu, in which I had to use the kama for the first time, but I also had to demonstrate the bunkai from a kata for both the bo (Cho-un-no-kon) and tunkua (tsun-kuwa-kata-ichi).

Well, this is how it is done at my school....

5 kyu -bo and escrima stick

4 kyu -no new weapons are taught although 2 new bo katas are learnt

3 kyu -1 Tongfa and 1 Jo Kata are taught

2 kyu -1 new bo kata is taught and 1 sai kata is taught

1 kyu -1 new bo and sai kata is taught we begin bokken (wooden sword) work

1 dan - we use a katana and many new katas using the existing weapons are taught

2 dan - same as above, no new weapons but many new katas are taught

3 dan - here we learn the final weapon which will be taught, the kama

As you can see from just our three posts, it really seems to depend on your school, and where you live, nunchukus are illegal here :)
