Tobias_Reece Posted October 11, 2002 Share Posted October 11, 2002 In Internation Okinawan Kobudo Association UK (kobudo) the following order of weapons in used (up to black belt): Rokushaku bo (6ft staff) Nunchaku Sai (3 pronged metal truncheons) Tonfa/tunkua (pr24) kama (sickles) Iyeku (boat oar) Rokushaku bo training starts at novice Nunchaku at 10th Kyu Sai at 8th Kyu Tonfa at 6th Kyu Kama at 4th Kyu Iyeku at 3rd Kyu Helps? For example, I just passed my 3rd kyu, in which I had to use the kama for the first time, but I also had to demonstrate the bunkai from a kata for both the bo (Cho-un-no-kon) and tunkua (tsun-kuwa-kata-ichi). LeaF Posted October 11, 2002 Share Posted October 11, 2002 Well, this is how it is done at my school.... 5 kyu -bo and escrima stick 4 kyu -no new weapons are taught although 2 new bo katas are learnt 3 kyu -1 Tongfa and 1 Jo Kata are taught 2 kyu -1 new bo kata is taught and 1 sai kata is taught 1 kyu -1 new bo and sai kata is taught we begin bokken (wooden sword) work 1 dan - we use a katana and many new katas using the existing weapons are taught 2 dan - same as above, no new weapons but many new katas are taught 3 dan - here we learn the final weapon which will be taught, the kama As you can see from just our three posts, it really seems to depend on your school, and where you live, nunchukus are illegal here Goju Ryu Karate-do and Okinawan Kobudo, 17 Years Old 1st kyu Brown Belt in in Goju Ryu Karate-do, & Shodan in Okinawan KobudoGiven enough time, any man may master the physical.
