Shaolin Fighter
Can you really learn from videos or is to serve as a training aid in your art? Does anyone here think you could learn any techniques from another style using video tape???
SD
hell yes, but it is best to have an instructor, and just use the videos to supplement your training. If you want to learn from videos i would suggest getting a more simplistic system such as boxing or thai boxing rather than trying to learn an entire kung fu style because kung fu has alot of forms and they would be very hard to learn from video. Pacificshore
Videos are a great way to supplement your training. But to pick up a system, it'll only show you the moves that you can mimic. It won't be able to show you the proper angle, pressures, etc. of any form or technique. The only way for that to happen is through your instructor. I've found though that if you video tape your own training sessions for future reference, you can also learn from it because you'll understand the intricacies of each movement as it is explained to you by your instructor. fungku
I wouldn't recommend learning from Videos unless you have a strong background in Gong Fu already. If you do, then videos are great Visit Shaolin, Chinese Martial Arts - I don't fear the 10,000 techniques you've practised once, I fear the one technique you've practiced 10,000 times. -
