I actually prefer to do the vast majority of my bagwork without gloves or wraps, at all--it's better for preparing your hands for impact to ensure that you don't get injured later. That said, MMA gloves definitely aren't bad for your hands, as long as you punch properly. I will say that the fact that the fingers are exposed means that it is easier for them to get caught on things, and injured that way.

Not if one is punching properly, as you've mentioned.

The MMA gloves look like a shorter version of what Bruce wore in Enter The Dragon. After the movie aired, one could buy a glove just like that. I did. What I didn't like was that the glove was thick all over. However, I couldn't fully close either fist completely, and I didn't like that at all.

I'd be aware of that as well with the MMA gloves. Hopefully, modern technology has fixed that.

:)

It isn't so much the punching you have to worry about with the fingers, as it is the blocking. Many styles, and many people, in general, do a lot of open-handed blocking. That is what leaves the fingers vulnerable to injury while wearing open-handed gloves.

I've seen the Bruce Lee gloves, and thought they were very interesting, but seemed like you probably couldn't make a proper fist. Modern MMA gloves don't have that problem, if they fit properly and are made properly.

Second that. Your fingers is the vulnerable point here.

There are many types of gloves out there and it all comes down to what you will use them for.

I do not know the brand of your gloves, but using google it seems that the gloves are 4 oz. mma gloves.

The good thing about mma gloves is that the it gives some protection to the hand and at the same times gives the hands and fingers so much freedom that one can do grappling with them on.

I train karate and mma, and do heavybag workout, sparring (both karate and mma) and the gloves I use depends on what training I do.

No gloves: Karate kihon, kata and no/light contact sparring. I also skip the gloves when training karate striking/punching on a heavybag, since I focus on form and not power/condition. I dont use gloves when I do submission wrestling and floor work in mma training.

7 oz. MMA Hybrid Gloves: MMA sparring involving striking, clinch and floorwork. Karate sparring with medium/heavy contact. ( I cant stand the WKF blue/red gloves. Totally trash) Light heavybag workout. HIIT involving heavybag, pushups, coretraining etc. When training mma and on the heavybag i use the gloves with handwraps. When training karate I dont use handwraps

16 oz. Boxing gloves: MMA training and mma sparring only involving striking. Heavy bag workout focusing on strenght and conditioning. Always with handwraps.

I have not yet needed a pair of 4 oz mma gloves. I have been tempted to buy them because they look good :) But I dont need them.

My suggestion is that you find out what type of gloves you really need, and then go buy the best quality gloves you can find.
