Another way to work/practice your forward shoulder roll is to start on your knees rather than from the standing position. Pick which ever side you want to start with, that'll be the side you will roll with.

If your left knee is on the ground, then you'll be rolling on your right shoulder and side. First make sure you tuck your chin to your chest, arc your right arm above your head and to the front of your body, make sure your right arm movement is done at an angle so as to have your shoulder lead you into the roll. In other words, your right arm should be moving towards your left knee.

In order to get your momentum going, push off with your left leg. You should stay tucked in tight and roll along the right side of your body. In order to come out of your roll successfully, keep your legs tucked under you until you come to the upright position and then post. Hope this makes some sense. Sometimes visual aides are better than words.

Starting from a kneeling position is very important when you first learn this roll. That way you can take it nice and slow, until you feel comfortable enough to stand up.

I love the method found on Century Video Library's "Kicknastics" series, vol. 1. (or sumthin like that): Begin with left leg forward, if you want to roll over your left shoulder. With your hands making a diamond, make a "wheel" with your arms, left shoulder forward. Tip your head to the right and tuck your chin into your chest. Kick off with your right foot (helps if the bottoms of your toes are touching the floor) and roll over your left shoulder.

REMEMBER: You're trying to draw a diagonal line from your left shoulder, down across your back, and to your right hip.

To do over your right shoulder, just reverse all the directions.

Now I am not knowledgeable on the term of this "roll" but when we were performing this forward roll we also had to slam one leg down on mat forcibly while slapping the opposite hand on mat at the same time

Breaking!

It takes sacrifice to be the best.

There are always two choices, two paths to take. One is easy. And its only reward is that it's easy.

It's called Hweh Juhn Nak Bub (rolling fall). I know this one well because I sprained my shoulder while learning it. Didn't listen to instructor very well. Came right down on top of it instead of driving forward with rear leg. I learned to pay more attention since that little mishap.

It's happy hour somewhere in the world.

thats strange coz we are taught to do them almost silently. ?? why do you slam your leg and hand down?

Theoretically, to transfer/distribute the energy of the fall.
