So I was on nightshift last night, after shift I went to bed and had a sound sleep. I awoke this afternoon and the first thing I see is a big hairy spider fall from the ceiling on to my bed :o I throw back the covers and leap to the other side of the room with speed and agility I only hope I will see in my Karate soon, I'm about to unleash an Otoshi Geri on the unwelcome intruder when I come to my senses and trap it under a glass. I stand there heart beating out of my chest and panting heavily while my opponent stares me out from behind the glass, it's tense, crazy lady vs big hairy tarantula. The stand off last for around 5 minutes until I pluck up the courage to slide an envelopr under the glass and throw him out. Once my heart rate returns to normal, I think how ridiculous I must've looked and had a wee chuckle to myself.

But it got me wondering is there anything that reduces all you big, tough martial artists to unfunctioning quivering wrecks? Any tales or funny stories you wish to share?

C'mon make me feel a little better about myself

I don't think that there's anything that turns me into an unfunctioning quivering wrecks... Well maybe apart from slugs. Ever since I stepped on one by accident (barefoot), I can't get the squishy sound and feeling off me everytime I see one. :bawling:

I'm not a fan of critters nor rodents. I live in a house full of women and I have been know to jump higher and scream louder then them.

 Eeeew! I'm not particularly fond of slugs either, that couldn't have been pleasant.

Rodents don't bother me, but wouldn't want them in the house. I have to feed my gecko live roaches, I freak out a little if one gets on my hand, but the wee guy has to eat so I can just about deal with them.

I'm with you on the spiders! Paralysing fear is probably an accurate description. I currently have one trapped under a bucket on my landing which noone has volunteered to help me with... At least I hope it's still there!

I'm also a little bit claustrophobic... Things like lifts and the like are fine but anywhere like tunnels where I might have to crawl through are a major problem.

My friends have 3 proper tarantulas, when I'm over at their house I'm constantly looking to make sure the tanks are locked. One of them is a bird eating spider, it's still a baby but it can grow to the size of a dinner plate :o I think my friends are secretly trying to get rid of me!

Yep you wouldn't find me at their house!

My mum is actually from South America and bird eating tarantulas are a major reason why I'm really really hesitant to ever visit family over there.

I've my share of phobia's. Spiders would be one!! If I was a spider expert, I probably wouldn't run for the hills, but seeing that I'm not a spider expert, I'll just run to the hills, with no shame and I'd be proud of myself. Besides, the run would do me good. Yes, the spider would still be in the house, but that's for someone else to deal with.

"Big karate guy afraid of little spider...boo hoo" YES, there was no spider school or whatever in the dojo I grew up in. Bad Dai-Soke for not teaching me to conquer any spider at will.

Eeewwwwwwwwwwwwwww!!

That's hilarious :)

You know, I'm ok with spiders but rodents make my skin crawl. I think it has to do with elementary school social studies class. I recall reading, as a child, the roll rodents played in the spread of disease. Being a neat freak - this made a lasting impression. :x
