DWx Posted April 21, 2014 Posted April 21, 2014 For those that teach (and also those that don't):Describe your ideal student. What qualities would they have? "Everything has its beauty, but not everyone sees it." ~ Confucius
Zaine Posted April 21, 2014 Posted April 21, 2014 I'm pretty general here, I just want to see a student who wants to learn the material. After that I can teach them anything else (such as respect and humbleness etc.). Martial arts training is 30% classroom training, 70% solo training.https://www.instagram.com/nordic_karate/
Archimoto Posted April 22, 2014 Posted April 22, 2014 Typing on an iPad so I'll keep it brief!I say humility and perseverance. To quote the great Bob Marley: "LOVE IS MY RELIGION"
Wastelander Posted April 22, 2014 Posted April 22, 2014 Well, if we're talking about "ideal," then I suppose they would be:HumblePatientInterested in martial artsMid- to late-teens in ageHealthy and fitTalented in physical movementIn reality, though, I'm thrilled any time I get the first three things in that list Kishimoto-Di | 2014-Present | Sensei: Ulf KarlssonShorin-Ryu/Shinkoten Karate | 2010-Present: Yondan, Renshi | Sensei: Richard Poage (RIP), Jeff Allred (RIP)Shuri-Ryu | 2006-2010: Sankyu | Sensei: Joey Johnston, Joe Walker (RIP)Judo | 2007-2010: Gokyu | Sensei: Joe Walker (RIP), Ramon Rivera (RIP), Adrian RiveraIllinois Practical Karate | International Neoclassical Karate Kobudo Society

DWx Posted April 22, 2014 Author Posted April 22, 2014 Great responses thus far Here's a follow up question:Taking a look at these two qualities: physically gifted vs enthusiasmWhat ratio of each would your perfect student have? You've got 100% to allocate between the two. Would you want 50% enthusiasm 50% physical ability? Or maybe 60:40? 25:75? or maybe even 99% of one of those traits and only 1% of the other? Zaine Posted April 23, 2014 Posted April 23, 2014 Enthusiasm 100% every time! Martial arts training is 30% classroom training, 70% solo training.https://www.instagram.com/nordic_karate/
