Energy in karate

Andreas

Recommended Posts

Hi I have one question. I train Go Ju Ryu karate for several years but I Have one question. I heard that karate can be trainded in more "psychic power way" where you can "feel" energy. And i want to know more about it, but i heard that this type of karate can have psychic consequences and you can go crazy(simple it is wery hard on physic).

Do You know what i Mean and do you know something more?

First off, welcome to KF!

This is a controversial topic and many don't believe that this is a real thing. They may be right, they may be wrong. I will, however, attach a disclaimer to it: I have never seen a legitimate use of someone's psychic power (or chi/ki) used to disarm an opponent. Does that mean it doesn't exist? No, certainly not, it just means that I haven't seen enough to prove to me that it's something that one can accomplish. That being said, if you're interested on reading up on the subject I would suggest that you go to your local library or bookstore (probably would have better luck at your local big chain bookstore) and look in the sports section. If you don't find anything there, look in the new age section. Be careful about looking it up on the internet and finding people who will teach you how to use these techniques for just a easy payment of X amount of money. Most of all, use your judgement and talk to your instructor about it. I haven't know Goju Ryu to focus on chi/ki but that doesn't mean there aren't practitioners out there who do.

Good luck on your search.

Welcome to the forum, Andreas!

As Zaine explained, there is no evidence that such powers exist. It would be very cool if they did, though! Typically, when you see a display of such powers, it is actually the result of a type of hypnosis, or mental conditioning. That is a very interesting subject, itself, but it isn't any sort of psychic power.

I truely believe that we train our minds whilst training our bodies, you can do a Kata a hundred times and feel nothing but if you apply the right mindset you may experience something. The best I can explain it in words is to be "in the fight".

I have heard of a dance student watching Karate and then performing a Kata almost perfectly but this is just going through the physical motions.

I personally feel a great calm after training Kata to its fullest of power, speed and strength, I have even felt surges of energy and had trembling fingers afterwards, this is the closest I have been to going crazy....

I don't think it's psychic energy, but my glutes and the rest of me exude power after heavy squats. Be a responsible karateka. Squat heavy.

I also train Goju and I believe there is more to it. My teacher alludes to it. But I think its more about harnessing and harmonizing and focusing power all at once. Comes with years of practice. Some of you may think its all bull but i think its real. Imagine hitting the baseball on the sweet spot with every movement - it would seem mystical, right??

BUT i must say I think all that chi touch knock out stuff is. . . far fetched. Ive seen the videos on you tube where the "chi master" gets his butt handed to him. Not only that, people that "associate" and or teach seminars on that stuff seem to lose all credibility. No offense to anyone....

Sorry, my views on such stuff are well known and not ...um..polite... so my view will come form one position, sorry.

...stuff like "no contact KO' karate and so forth

Search YouTube...nice video of ..such an systems teacher...utterly decimated.

More IMO mind set than magical powers or some mysitcal energy you feel flow through you .

I do believe and do get the idea that there are things in this world we simply do not understand or even are aware of, but magic...nope not one of the things we will one day 'discover'!

Mind set, the desire to do a thing, the singular drive to that end...call it determination , training, stamina, desire, focus, science, skill, education if you want but call it 'magic' no.

That energy that feeling as it moves through you, can I suggest its more a case of the muscles, bones and the mind all working in perfect or near perfect sync and the 'power' the action creates in its execution is what you are feeling?

Not some unexpected connection to a secret free energy stream in the air.

(Thinking Star Wars and midi-chlorians....great in films or Hollywood, MA and the real world..just plain NO!)
