My OP questions are of the example that both the kids and the adults DO NOT train in the SAME class, UNTIL appropriate, if at all.

Mom and Dad are in the adult classes while the son and daughter are in the kids class. All four, per this example, reach BB in or about the same time. This applies to the IMMEDIATE family, as my OP speaks about that.

:)

Yes, our age categories are "kids" (4-8yo), "youth" (9-15yo), and "adult" (16+). One of our full families is spread across all three age groups, and the other across the youth and adult classes. Our brother/sister family is in the youth class.

Absolutely.

So, if my OP gave the intent that an entire immediate family attended the same class, I deeply apologize for that.

I wanted to clarify. We have occasional family classes, but mostly my son and I are not in the same class - - the classes are generally quite separated between youth and adult, as well as levels - - groups of close belts together, etc. The family classes are a fun way for family members to take in a class together, and are only offered twice a week. But just to be clear, we do not really train together. We each attend 3-4 classes per week, and only one, if any, is a family class. Even within the family class, we separate to work on various things. Basically just the warm up is together.

While you and your son are in different classes, per my OP, you and your son train together from an immediate family. Cool!!

No, I took it as families that just attend the dojo together. :) No worries... 8)

We have several partial families, but only one full family. Dad passed away years ago, son and daughter are both black belts and have been at the school for 10 years. The mom started classes finally last year.

My oldest son is a black belt, youngest son started last year, and I am three years into it. We have many like us.

One really cool family we have though the dad and his two daughters all received their black belts at our school many years ago, took a 10 year break, then came back and brought 3 grandkids with them. So all five are now taking class, 3 generations.

I'm the only one who's ever trained in the MA within my immediate family, and this is also true with my other relatives; I'm the only one!! It's been a lonely journey on the floor!!
