AdamE3 Posted March 3, 2014 Posted March 3, 2014 Hello guys,I lack the proper agility for mawashigeri (roundhouse kick). I was wondering if anyone had some good stretches to get that out of the way. Things that can be done while sitting or relaxing, are also accepted warmly!Furthermore, I am going to kumite soon after many years of break. Do you guys have any recommendations as for how to prepare myself outside the dojo?Arigatou-gozaimasu.
cheesefrysamurai Posted March 4, 2014 Posted March 4, 2014 I would have posted this in the general as a TKD person could give a better answer. Warm up well!I bend at waist touching the floor repeatedly.sit on floor with knees bent and feet together in front of you, and bend to left, right and middle repeatedly also in this position push down on your kneessplits, or as far down as you can go safelySit on the mat and spread legs as wide as you can and lean to left right and center repeatedly.standing i sort of do a deep hula hoop sort of movement to loosen the hips. Left, right and around, both directions.I can't stress enough that a good warm up is essential AND I wouldn't attempt a high kick without being warm even if you are comfortable. Ive injured myself trying to do things I was able to do warmed up.hope my 2 cents helps Nothing Worth Having Is Easily Obtained - ESPECIALLY RANK

Then leaning down towards my foot to stretch the leg further. Then after that, turn my floor-foot 90 degrees out, and then turning my table foot on it's side, to stretch off my hip. This is a very useful stretch for me and I do it every single session.

DWx Posted March 6, 2014 Posted March 6, 2014 http://www.trickstutorials.com/index.php?page=content/flx3The Tricks Tutorials website is really good for stretching (and also plyometrics). Simply enough for beginners but with good development for advanced too. I would also recommend to OP to make sure you are learning the action of the roundhouse properly too. It's TKD but these videos are great for learning the kick and the action is similar enough: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yIawbHsotgl "Everything has its beauty, but not everyone sees it." ~ Confucius
