Found this...

Apparently there's an ongoing IBJJF scandal, various BJJ and MMA fighters stepped forward to confirm the allegations presented in the BJJEE article titled "IBJJF Under Attack".

Any of you familiar with this?

:o

Had not heard anything about this. But this doesn't surprise me either. I've heard that they are very difficult to deal with and impossible to get in touch with if you're dealing with a registration issue. Also at tournaments I've heard they make claims about competitors gis or belts being too worn or miss placed patches ect. And give them a choice to be dq'd or by from a vender at the event whose products were marked up 100% over retail.

It's hard to call a scandal. The big complaint is that the IBJJF is a FOR PROFIT company that is considering itself the authority for BJJ ranking. Then it requires you to purchase membership in IBJJF to compete in IBJJF tournaments.

They're a company that is trying to make money. But they're not selling rank or anything. So I have no real problem with them.

To me, if people have a problem with them, they should create their own tournament system that competes and is better run. The IBJJF runs extremely organized tournaments that even tell you what time and day you will compete. No one else is able to do that. So they must be doing something right.
