when doing the upper block to block a downward strike on your head, do you make the nunchaku straight or do you form a slight triangle with your nunchaku to block this strike?

Never block a straight vertical attack to your head with the nunchaku - its all about the pressure etc. Its the same as using the sai - you never block straight, you always bloc to the side and hook.

 

However, if you did mean to block diagonally, then yes......block diagonally.

 

Nunchaku can be very effective in blocking IF DONE PROPERLY. Most people don't do it properly, and everyone gets hurts.....
