I am wanting to learn, Jion, Empi and Bassai Dai in my own time and am trying to find a "walk through demonstration" of each one on the net, that I can print out..... Does anyone know of any websites that have this for free.. Thanks and train hard Guy Braun guy@ince.co.za
ramymensa Posted September 27, 2002 Posted September 27, 2002 I tried to find some sites. I don't know if they are of any good, but here's the linking part. I'm sorry if they are a waste of time http://www.cambridgekarate.org.uk/kata/#Katas http://www.ctr.usf.edu/shotokan/kata.html The last links to the site I used a lot. There are only the videos for katas, but they are for free. You can find a lot of paid stuff, but I like freebies World Shotokan Karate
G95champ Posted September 29, 2002 Posted September 29, 2002 Best bet is to get Gichin Funakoshi's Masters Text off EBAY or Amazon.com. (General George S. Patton Jr.) "It's the unconquerable soul of man, and not the nature of the weapon he uses, that ensures victory."
KU Posted October 3, 2002 Posted October 3, 2002 http://www.ctr.usf.edu/shotokan/kata.html Thanks for this link, the katas on this site are quite good in comparison to some of the stuff that gets put on the net, it has almost all the major katas. Arigato!! I must say however, that I don't think it is a good idea to learn a kata entierly from the net you should also use the guidance of your sensai so you can learn the subtleties of the kata. Videos and books should only be use as a guide, also ask your sensai if he thinks your ready to learn these katas there is a reason they are high grade major katas. - Only by contrast can we see.- Each for his own.
