frankmachine Posted August 14, 2013 Posted August 14, 2013 Can anyone direct me to a document containing the grading syllabuses for Shotokan style Kyu & Dan grades? thanks a lotfrank
lowereastside Posted August 14, 2013 Posted August 14, 2013 Go to Googles and type in ( JKA/Shotokan Karate grading syllabus )You will get plenty of info. Also remember things change - many color belts have been added - compared to the ranking system of years past. Also today there are different organizations teaching Shotokan Karate - with different color belts and what kyu represents what belt. Hope I kinda helped. And also on this forum there are Shotokan stylist that can help you. Good Luck
mal103 Posted August 14, 2013 Posted August 14, 2013 Without boasting we have a fairly standard syllabus on our website, as pointed out you will get variations so long as it gets more complex as you go up. Nearer 1st kyu we tend to mix it up a bit and add things to keep them thinking and to get them ready for Shodan. Is there anything specific you needed to know?

sensei8 Posted August 21, 2013 Posted August 21, 2013 Here's two that might be helpful...http://www.lessonswiththemaster.com/index_files/skifsyllabus.pdf**Use the scroll-down bar at the right. You'll see ranks up to Godan**And/or...http://www.jka.or.jp/english/karate/dan_rank.html**Once at the JKA site, look to the right. You'll see kyu and dan listings. Click on the rank you're interested in and you'll see the grading prerequisites** **Proof is on the floor!!!
frankmachine Posted August 23, 2013 Author Posted August 23, 2013 thanks that JKA one is quite useful as a guide.. There seems to be less requirements in there to me from what I remember back in the 80's doing gradings in E.S.K.A. under Sensei Clive Layton & Mick Randall..
