Could I ask (and I'm sorry if it has been asked before) - how old are you?

K.

I don't disclose that information online. Sorry.

Sounds like you have a good game plan. Just go for it.

Most or the founders of the more traditional arts were never 10th degree anyway. They were either forced to take it or awarded it posthumously so those who followed could attain rank higher than 5th, which is what most founders considered themselves.

In the end, the only point of having degrees is retention of children. Most people will quit upon earning a black belt or choose to keep training. If they are training just to earn a black belt, you'll lose them anyway. If they are training to learn an art, they'll stay longer.

I don't see the need for super high ranks. If your system only goes up to 4th...so be it. If it goes up to 32nd...so be it. It's your system.

I only asked as this (rightly or wrongly) could be a factor in terms how seriously people will take you.

Also - along with answers to Kuma's question - it allows us to understand the depth of your understanding of the arts you have studied.

and so on and so forth. The earlier belts will have the very simple Goju Taikyoku kata, which take very little time. This will give me time to teach a lot of breakfalls, joint locks, throws, and obvious karate striking basics. Then when the intermediate belts come along, I can start teaching Judo and Shorin Ryu types of kata.

On the more advanced levels (from brown through black) I will teach what I feel are the most important advanced kata from each of my systems. 2nd and 3rd dan will be the ridiculous tournament-winning kata that take true skill to master. 4th will be where I encourage students to go to other schools by requiring a kata from a different art.

I have it all planned out, and I have the funds to set it in motion. If anyone doubts me, I can show them how I fight and how sharp my kata are. I know my stuff.

Like ps1 said, sounds like you have a good plan. And, the fact that you have the $$$ to do it (risk on it) on your own is a BIG plus... So, you have a plan, have the $$$ to implement the plan; sounds like it's time to "plan the work, work the plan" so to speak... :D

Uh... in other things, I think some gremlins are messing with our posts... To clarify:

I have it all planned out, and I have the funds to set it in motion. If anyone doubts me, I can show them how I fight and how sharp my kata are. I know my stuff.

well, lets see it then.

From a previous post by The Greatest Disciple and quoted in this post above, I didn't say that...lol

100% accurate... My MA journey has been going for about two-and-a-half decades, now, but because I'm less than middle-aged, some of our adult students over the years didn't take me seriously or outright ignored anything I tried to teach them. Even now, people say I look young (I'm not that young), and I think my perceived age plays a role in some of our adult students' acceptance of my experience / knowledge... I'm forced to "prove my pudding" to our adult students on a somewhat regular basis...
