Samdan Posted June 1, 2013 Posted June 1, 2013 Hey guys, been floating around this forum for a while now and like what is going on, I joined to ask the question whether anyone out there has any info on a John Titchen. He's a UK based kata bunkai chap, I was thinking about going on a seminar of his and wondered if anyone knew anything about him or trained with him at any point. Kind of a long shot but thought I'd give it a go.Thanks in advance.
Kuma Posted June 1, 2013 Posted June 1, 2013 I've heard nothing but great things about him and his training. If I were you I wouldn't pass up on it. A lot of his seminars focus on realistic scenarios in full Spartan training gear so anything goes. Here's a video for a taste of what he offers (warning NSFW - bad language):http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qoC059jsSPgI think it's a great thing that he's doing and he's doing it well. His book Heian Flow System is also a good investment:http://www.amazon.com/Heian-Flow-System-John-Titchen/dp/0954446623
Samdan Posted June 1, 2013 Author Posted June 1, 2013 I was actually looking at a bunkai seminar a wado friend told me about of the Heian flow system on the 25 August but that stuff in armour looks amazing.Have you been to anything he's done in the past? I'd really like to see how my stuff compares in a more real situation, point sparring just doesn't quite cut it for me I really want to see how I would hold up with something a little more lifelike.
sensei8 Posted June 1, 2013 Posted June 1, 2013 First of all, Welcome to KarateForums!!I'm unfamiliar with the gentleman you're speaking about...sorry. Good luck. **Proof is on the floor!!!
Samdan Posted June 1, 2013 Author Posted June 1, 2013 Thank you sensei8.Kuma has been awesome already, I was surprised someone who knew about him responded so quickly. I've already ordered Mr Titchen's book on Kuma's evaluation of him and some of the videos i've looked up. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3AJEspzJng8&list=PLhcLRLwER_tgPm8HQXIofyCzLXW-iAGtnThis one is especially good I really like the way that he's responding to a more normal attack rather than karate man attacks karate man sort of thing.
Wastelander Posted June 3, 2013 Posted June 3, 2013 John is a knowledgeable karateka with a focus on highly effective, realistic self defense training, and he is also very open to sharing. You may see him on the internet with the username JWT, and he will sometimes jump into conversations on practical kata application and realistic training methods. He has some videos on YouTube, in addition to his book and his contributions to online discussions, so just that in itself provides a wealth of great information. From my interactions with him through the internet, I believe he would be a great person to train with. I'm across the pond, but if I ever do get a chance to train with him, I certainly will! Kuma Posted June 3, 2013 Posted June 3, 2013 From what I heard, next year sometime he may be looking to have a US seminar. Keep your eyes peeled.
