Tzu-Logic
I used to be a restaurant manager for a while, I had never had anyone physically attack me, but i did have some belligerent, angry people get in my face. I was able to stay calm cool and collected without responding in fear. Also as an I.T. guy when a there is a problem with a major system and something goes down, everyone starts panicking. I use deep breathing techniques I've picked up throughout my training to remain calm and collected. muttley
Serving Prison Officer. I use martial arts on a daily basis, not just in control and restraint techniques and personal protection (techniques which are based on martial arts in some way), but also in how I work:Awareness - spacial awareness and awareness of exit routes etcMaintain calmness under pressureExplaining what is self defence to lads who believe it be "kick the crap out of the other person"

Wastelander
As an IT person, myself, I really don't have any need to use my training except for self control. That said, I used to train with a woman at my old dojo (who still trains, as well) that was a nurse at a home for elderly people with dementia. She was on the "restraint team" and had to make use of her training fairly frequently. She has since retired from that job to sew full time--much less stressful Kishimoto-Di | 2014-Present | Sensei: Ulf KarlssonShorin-Ryu/Shinkoten Karate | 2010-Present: Yondan, Renshi | Sensei: Richard Poage (RIP), Jeff Allred (RIP)Shuri-Ryu | 2006-2010: Sankyu | Sensei: Joey Johnston, Joe Walker (RIP)Judo | 2007-2010: Gokyu | Sensei: Joe Walker (RIP), Ramon Rivera (RIP), Adrian RiveraIllinois Practical Karate | International Neoclassical Karate Kobudo Society
muttley
Having said that I use my martial arts almost daily at work in a physical intervention kind of way, I really wish there was more to it than that.We should all be using our martial arts daily in the way we chose to live our lives, by being an example to others in how to live a peaceful existence. Sadly, I fail at this sometimes and feel I let myself down.
pers
The benefit of martial arts can be used in any activity or profession . For example I have played soccer since 8 years old and played mostly in goal , after starting karate I stopped playing football for few years , I returned to playing football few after and to my amazement my football skill have not diminished but actualy improved dramatically . to an extent that I think I could have played at a high level had I been a few years younger , the agility ,body coordination and reflexes that karate gave me made me a much much better goalkeeper which also gave me more self confidence . never give up !
