bushido_man96 Posted May 6, 2013 Posted May 6, 2013 I tend to punch a lot when training, but we don't punch to the head as a target when we spar. But if training on a bag, I like to punch, because it tends to work better for doing rounds of bagwork. https://www.haysgym.comhttp://www.sunyis.com/https://www.aikidoofnorthwestkansas.com

At times I'll put them on, but its not a hard and fast rule of mine to wear them while working the bag. https://www.haysgym.comhttp://www.sunyis.com/https://www.aikidoofnorthwestkansas.com
Wastelander Posted May 7, 2013 Posted May 7, 2013 I'm afraid this is a bit tough to answer, since it depends on what I'm striking. I suppose I prefer palm heel strikes and hammerfists, as a general rule, but there are definitely exceptions. Tkdampbjj Posted May 9, 2013 Posted May 9, 2013 I like in S.D. to use hammer fists, palm strikes, and even gouges, to attack targets like the face or head, and my fists more to go to the body. Soft weapons for hard targets, and hard weapons for soft targets. jimfaul Posted May 10, 2013 Posted May 10, 2013 I have always favored striking with the two knuckles in a traditional punch for sparring purposes. However in a real fight I would favor striking with palm of my hand. I feel this is a more powerful strike since I have to worry less about breaking my hand. I have been training in martial arts for over 18 years in karate, Muay Thai, BJJ, and wrestling.
SonGoku92 Posted May 11, 2013 Posted May 11, 2013 I prefer open hand strikes; shuto, nukite, palm heel etc. just makes it that much quicker to go from strikes to grabs. and my palms don't get all sweaty that way either. lol "I am the hope of the universe! I am the answer to all living things that cry out for peace,I am protector of the innocent, I am the light in the darkness, I am truth... Ally to good! nightmare to you!"
brickshooter Posted May 15, 2013 Posted May 15, 2013 I prefer the traditional first two knuckle punch & knifehand. This is what I train with daily. I'm sure I won't be able to change my mind in a self-defense situation even though I think that a palm heel & hammer fist may be better.
ShotokanMaster Posted May 17, 2013 Posted May 17, 2013 I like reverse punch abd back fist strike or 2 punch from the head with my left and strike to the chest using reverse punch I love Shotokan Karate Do and American Kenpo Karate
sensei8 Posted May 17, 2013 Posted May 17, 2013 I prefer striking over punching because it's much more easier to transition directly into a grasp/clinch.That's just me. **Proof is on the floor!!!
