My first style took me 8 years.

I aim to do it in 4 years in my present style.

4 years.

Usually somewhere between 4 and 6 years is average I think. There are other variables such as certain styles take longer to get to BB such as BBJ.

That BB is only the beginning is a popular saying because it's when you've proven you have the ability to reach BB and it's when you start learning secrets and your training becomes more intense. Black Belt is when you start becoming intimate with your chosen system.

4 years in the style I teach, but it's on invitation only, some take longer.

Wado they graded once a year so it would have been 8 to 10 years.

In chuan fa I earned it in 3 years. But I trained almost every day to do that. Literally, I trained 6 days a week.

After that was Shotokan. That took me 1 year to earn shodan. I trained 2 times per day 4 days a week. Not to mention, my experience in the basics and prior martial arts experience was a great help.

In Aiki Jujitsu, it took 3 years, training 3 days/week.

BJJ, I'm scheduled to test (and fully expect to pass) March 1st after 9 years of training.
