I haven't been good about giving updates here this year; it's been a doozy, to say the least. But after all was said and done, Kenneth was able to finish the season out with 4 straight tournaments, and he is on to the State tournament this Sunday.

Well, state has come and gone. As a club, we performed rather well; I believe we qualified 36, and about half placed, and we ended up with a few state champs, and a few runners-up to boot. Unfortunately, Kenneth was not amongst that group. He had some ups and downs this year, and just needs to work on some things. Fortunately, the club is going to continue with some practices during the off-season, for as long as interest holds. In my experience, however, it doesn't seem to hold for long around here, mainly due to: 1, fatigue; and 2, other sports seasons kicking off. We'll be in full swing for baseball now, but I think I can manage to get Kenneth to at least one of those practices a week, which I think would help tremendously.

Until then, on to next year.

No matter how the team ended up, I want to congratulate them for their spirit and effort. Interest does play a huge part in endeavor, especially when it comes to youth sports activities. Kenneth and Kendall will always have me deepest respect because they were on the mats not for a season, but for a reason.

How does Kenneth and Kendall feel about continuing wrestling??

Well, Kenneth is pretty much geared for baseball now, and Kendall is as well. I don't know if I'll get them to do much offseason wrestling at all, but they'll go out again next season.

Sounds pretty good! I wish them best in baseball, as well. BATTER UP!!

I haven't posted an update here in way to long, so here we are. My youngest son is still wrestling, and this is his 8th grade year. His first tournament, he won two matches by pin, and got first place. Unfortunately, he lost out on having another match due to weather preventing some teams from making the trip.

His second tournament was the same Saturday of that week, and he wrestled three matches, winning all three by pin, locking up another first place medal. He did so while being in a lot of pain due to a dentist visit that happened the day before. He had a cavity filled, and the dentist stated it might need a root canal. Well, the filling didn't really take, and he ended up running a fever and having horrible pain in his jaw. He wrestled anyway, winning his three matches. The next several days were filled with pain and fever, and he had to stay home from school, and ended up getting the root canal in the middle of the week. After the root canal, it was a night and day difference. He finally went back to school today (Friday), practiced without any issues, but has lost about 10 lbs due to not being able to eat much from the pain. He missed the Thursday tournament this week, but he will be wrestling this Saturday, and I'll update that this weekend.

Best of luck to him! Wrestling is a tough sport! Though if he can compete (and win!) with that type of tooth pain he likely has the grit needed to succeed!

Thanks, DP.

This weekend's tournament was another success. He had three matches; would have four, but a kid forfeited a match. He pinned all three and took first place again.

superb! I'm not familiar with the age groups in the American grade system - what age category is that he is in? Though i would intuitively think that Kansas wrestling is likely of a high standard! He do any other martial arts or grappling? Wrestlers are absolute monsters on the mats!
