He's planning another Olympic run, but after that, I can see him getting into MMA. Will be interesting to see - though i am wondering if there are a few red flags appearing now: flaming out in WWE and NFL; getting beaten at NCAA (while i am sure his opponent is excellent he is still the olympic champ!)
bushido_man96 Posted April 4, 2025 Author Posted April 4, 2025 Nah, no red flags. That's how wrestling works. Plenty of great athletes have flamed out of the NFL and gone on to be successful in other careers: Brock Lesnar had a decent MMA career, but got cut in Vikings camp I believe. Dwayne Johnson also didn't make the cut for the NFL. Kimbo Slice played football collegiately for Florida State University and enjoyed his own run of fame. Carl Weathers was cut from the Raiders roster and enjoyed a movie career. Steveson is going to be just fine. The opponent he lost to, Wyatt Hendrickson, is no slouch of a wrestler, and he is also going to the Olympic trials. So no red flags; this is the competitive nature of wrestling. 1 https://www.haysgym.comhttp://www.sunyis.com/https://www.aikidoofnorthwestkansas.com
bushido_man96 Posted January 26 Author Posted January 26 I've been very remiss in updating this thread. Kenneth is in his sophomore high school season. He started the season at heavyweight, and wrestled one tournament at that weight, taking first. Then he dropped to the 215 lb weight class, and has been experiencing success there. His first few meets were rough, but he's placed 3rd in 4 tournaments so far at 215. We just had a really tough tournament here in town this weekend where Kenneth went 5-4 over the two-day meet. He's edging closer to 30 wins on the season. 2 https://www.haysgym.comhttp://www.sunyis.com/https://www.aikidoofnorthwestkansas.com
bushido_man96 Posted Sunday at 10:52 AM Author Posted Sunday at 10:52 AM Ok, still doing a bad job. A week ago Kenneth competed in the league tournament, and the league is a very strong wrestling league. He had a good run. He won his first match in the third period with a pin. His second match was a loss that put him on the backside of the bracket. His third match was a win with a pin in the 2nd period, and that one gave him 30 wins on the season, which was a great milestone. Winning that match put him in the medal round, and he went the distance in that match, winning 7-4 and earning a third place finish. https://www.haysgym.comhttp://www.sunyis.com/https://www.aikidoofnorthwestkansas.com
sensei8 Posted Sunday at 04:22 PM Posted Sunday at 04:22 PM Congrats Kenneth for his 3rd place finish!! You might’ve mentioned this before but are these tournaments only local or regional or state or national or all of the above?!? Are the tournaments sponsored through the school or through a club or all of the above?!? Only ask because I can only imagine if these tournaments involve outside of the locality that you must have done a ton of traveling which could be quite costly for you and Vicky. My tournament days were primarily local and regional and state. I did do a lot of traveling both as a minor and as an adult. When I was a minor I never went beyond regional and tried to do just local to save my mom money. As an adult I was all over the state with an extremely rare tournament outside of California. Traveling to tournaments put a dent in my wallet and a lot of miles on my car. **Proof is on the floor!!!
