TKD is dominant where I am at. But, "dominant" could hardly by a wise word choice, as its tough to get MA schools running in rural Kansas. But, the city I live in is kind of a honey pot, with our TKD school, an Aikido school, a Karate school, and a Defensive Tactics club at the University. In the town I grew up in, there was our TKD school, or you could Wrestle in school.

That sounds like a familiar thing in a small town. We just got lucky an while we didn't have a ton of choices we had some very knowledgeable instructors.

Zaine to find the quality of school you are seeking you may have to put the miles in as I do.

It was never a problem of continued research and putting in miles. I was just curious whether or not certain styles dominate certain areas in other places.

Martial arts training is 30% classroom training, 70% solo training.

I believe that styles do dominate areas, due to at some point students want to open their own schools but not relocating to do so. And you'll have sister school with a bit of personal flare at each location. I've noticed that you'll see a couple of the same styles in the same area.

I don't know how this is where I live. Haven't really researched it much but think it's quite balanced.

But I think it could be that there are some styles that are just more spread because of popularity and public knowledge about the existence of the style. I think in general almost everybody associates martial arts with karate just because there is more ruckus around it. (e.g. karate kid)

It's not the top but just the point where you start to understand the true size of what you're doing.

Where I live...TKD is dominant. Yes, there are one or two BJJ schools, and a sprinkle of Japanese Karate dojo's, alas, no Okinawa Karate within 20 mile radius.

Traveling to ones preferred school of the MA is a good thing for that MAist so that they can get what they need in their training. I'm for it and I support it.

:)

Hey, there are a couple of good Judo schools where you live as well!

:D

But yes, there is an absolutely OVERWHELMING amount of TKD here. And I'm sorry to say, most of it I have experienced is drivel.

Think first, act second, and stop getting the two confused.

I didn't found any particular type where people learn only Karate or Kung fu. I am supposed to take jujitsu training and my friend was is learning Kung-fu past two years. So, no matter in our area there is mixed culture of various Martial arts techniques.

There are way too many TSD schools in my area. A few TKD

Is this an east coast thing, for the most part? Whenever I do see TSD school members popping up here, it appears to be close to the east coast for the most part. I'd like to see a TSD school, visit and see what they do and how.
