bushido_man96 Posted December 11, 2012 Posted December 11, 2012 TKD is dominant where I am at. But, "dominant" could hardly by a wise word choice, as its tough to get MA schools running in rural Kansas. But, the city I live in is kind of a honey pot, with our TKD school, an Aikido school, a Karate school, and a Defensive Tactics club at the University. In the town I grew up in, there was our TKD school, or you could Wrestle in school. https://www.haysgym.comhttp://www.sunyis.com/https://www.aikidoofnorthwestkansas.com

We just got lucky an while we didn't have a ton of choices we had some very knowledgeable instructors. Kisshu fushin, Oni te hotoke kokoro. Zaine Posted December 12, 2012 Author Posted December 12, 2012 Zaine to find the quality of school you are seeking you may have to put the miles in as I do.It was never a problem of continued research and putting in miles. I was just curious whether or not certain styles dominate certain areas in other places. Martial arts training is 30% classroom training, 70% solo training.https://www.instagram.com/nordic_karate/
pittbullJudoka Posted December 13, 2012 Posted December 13, 2012 I believe that styles do dominate areas, due to at some point students want to open their own schools but not relocating to do so. And you'll have sister school with a bit of personal flare at each location. I've noticed that you'll see a couple of the same styles in the same area.
ShotokanMaster Posted February 26, 2013 Posted February 26, 2013 IN were I live mostly Shotokan and Goju ryu and bunch of other Martial arts I love Shotokan Karate Do and American Kenpo Karate
T3chnopsycho Posted February 26, 2013 Posted February 26, 2013 I don't know how this is where I live. Haven't really researched it much but think it's quite balanced. But I think it could be that there are some styles that are just more spread because of popularity and public knowledge about the existence of the style. I think in general almost everybody associates martial arts with karate just because there is more ruckus around it. Tempest Posted February 28, 2013 Posted February 28, 2013 Where I live...TKD is dominant. Yes, there are one or two BJJ schools, and a sprinkle of Japanese Karate dojo's, alas, no Okinawa Karate within 20 mile radius.Traveling to ones preferred school of the MA is a good thing for that MAist so that they can get what they need in their training. I'm for it and I support it. Hey, there are a couple of good Judo schools where you live as well! But yes, there is an absolutely OVERWHELMING amount of TKD here. And I'm sorry to say, most of it I have experienced is drivel. Think first, act second, and stop getting the two confused.
FangPwnsAll7 Posted February 28, 2013 Posted February 28, 2013 There are way too many TSD schools in my area. A few TKD Tang Soo Do - Red Belt (2nd GUP)
jimmyorttiz Posted March 1, 2013 Posted March 1, 2013 I didn't found any particular type where people learn only Karate or Kung fu. I am supposed to take jujitsu training and my friend was is learning Kung-fu past two years. So, no matter in our area there is mixed culture of various Martial arts techniques. jiu-jitsu moves
bushido_man96 Posted March 1, 2013 Posted March 1, 2013 There are way too many TSD schools in my area. A few TKDIs this an east coast thing, for the most part? Whenever I do see TSD school members popping up here, it appears to be close to the east coast for the most part. I'd like to see a TSD school, visit and see what they do and how. https://www.haysgym.comhttp://www.sunyis.com/https://www.aikidoofnorthwestkansas.com
