Ananku? Starts with double down blocks to the sides then moving forward with side blocks into center punches? Shift into kokutsu dachi/shuto over head shuto strike into a center kick?

i dont think so

the kata im thinking of has this crazy graceful wrist block thing in the begining then several steps forwaard with this crazy palm strike type thing (like a knife hand with the fingers slightly spread). very popular shito ryu tournament kata

That sounds like the Shi-to Ryu Jitte.

Its Called Annan ;) just Annan or Anan. I have a couple shito ryu friends from Hawaii that compete with it. the opening movement is in shoulderwith stance where the right hand rises up, and then the left hadn goes up the same side of the body (right) as the right hand is coming down. at the end of the opening motion the hands are at a crazy palm to palm position (maybe its wrist to wrist).

Dont we have any Shito-ryu guys around?(i know there are 52 kata but somebody has got to know them all!)

Then does the right hand go to the side in a hito strike while the left hand goes to the hip.

Right arm folds across the body horizontally while the left fist shoots out in a back fist with the elbow landing on the back of the right hand.

Then the arms fold over horizontally and the right foot steps out into shiko dachi while the right had performs a hito strike.

Does that sound more like it?

I was hoping to find a link for you.... but you have the link queen clueless on this one.

I found this on a german site which I had put thru translation to be:

Anandai .....Chinese Kata Ryuei ryu. This Kata is common also under the name Anan. Probably this name points on an expert of Chinese boxing from Fuzhou, which admits under same name was.

The official Ryuei Ryu list of katas: http://karate.ucsd.edu/terms.shtml

An article on Sakumoto Sensei who is best known for his rendition of "Anan", a Ryuei-Ryu style kata that won him the JKF Kata Championship on numerous occassions http://www.kissaki.com.my/articles/jfm1.html
