bushido_man96 Posted November 5, 2012 Posted November 5, 2012 Its too bad some clubs can't be more flexible on when they schedule their gradings. I understand how you feel, but in the long run, it won't make too much of a difference. Its ok to rant about it to, though. It shows you feel confident, which is good. https://www.haysgym.comhttp://www.sunyis.com/https://www.aikidoofnorthwestkansas.com
DoctorQui Posted November 6, 2012 Author Posted November 6, 2012 Thanks for all your support and advice guys, I agree with all of you. As I said before, its not about the black belt for me, although outsiders see the black belt as a sign of knowledge and experience and I (as do my dojo mates) know that my knowledge and skill is that of a black belt. As I said, its more of a frustration than an annoyance!Well, last night, to sweeten the pill, my instructor has started me on the advanced katas and technique which is unusual for a kyu grade so at least I've started learning what I would have normally started at bb!
Dobbersky Posted November 6, 2012 Posted November 6, 2012 Just to say, I feel really proud of the fact you have been invited to grade for blackbelt. But just have patience my friend.Just to advise, I have a now 1st Kyu who was a 1st Gup TKD, prior to joining my dojo. He had to put the time in (although the first 4 gradings were done in 1/2 the time as normal) its not just about doing the 3 "K's" correctly its all about various things Adult Dan GradesI'll expand as to what I need to see before I put Student forward for Shodan (1st Dan). I'm looking for mental attitude as the physical is only part of it.Seven virtues of BushidoThe Bushido code is typified by seven virtues:RectitudeCourageBenevolenceRespectHonestyHonourLoyaltyAssociated virtuesFilial pietyWisdomCare for the agedYou can teach a monkey to perform karate (you can find this on You tube), does that mean it is worthy of a black belt. To me and many Yudansha (blackbelts) the above Virtues are what makes a Yudansha not the physical side. "Challenge is a Dragon with a Gift in its mouth....Tame the Dragon and the Gift is Yours....."
