Done. :} I wonder if it's biased of me to want a "knockdown karate" sub-category? Haha, probably!

No cause that's what i want too lol

At the questionnaire is 23 answers at the moment!

I think it's very well done.

I'll wait until weekend to do my first analysis (SPSS software is not my strong point.)

About Karate ... I started with a list of martial arts http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_martial_arts. Too much :-)

(I did not even include Han Moo Do even though I done it.)

It's looking good - no reason to slow down:-)

Can we get 7 more to break 30?

Done, found the question regards what styles very generalistic against karate, karate can be sub divided into different categories

Hehe, i could write pages explaining what Bujin is, I just had to settle for "other".

Found myself marking almost every style for 1-3 times per week. Thats Bujin.

I got 27 answers to my questionnaire. Gender did not seem to affect answers, but it might be due to small number of responses. Only 5 was female.

From the reasons to practice Martial Arts four most important were:

“I want to improve my skills”,

“I want to learn new skills”,

“I like to have fun” and

“I like the challenge”

Four least important were:

“My parents or close friends want me to play”,

” I want to be popular”,

“I like to feel important”,

“I want to gain status or recognition”

How important are the following to you?

Most important was technical ability of the instructor and almost as important was learning self defence skills.

Not at all important was “progressing through grades” or

“cost of participating”.

What martial arts do you practice and how much per week?

Most of who answered practice:

karate or

“other”.

This was not a very well constructed question.

How much do you practice martial arts weekly?

Answers varied from 1 – 3 hours to more than 7 hours per week. I’d estimate that average is 5 hours per week.

Do you use instructional videos?

Most of us watch an instructional video once a week and also tries out the technique with a partner.

I also did a factor analysis ( not very liable as I should have had 10 times more answers). BUT this factor analysis tells that most important reason is

“friendship”, next

"skill development",

“fitness” and

“competing”.

“Self defense” was a factor, but not very strong one.

I think that most of the people that answered my questionnaire are very active on the forum and also active in training martial arts. This might not give correct image of all the participants on the forum. (Thread has been read 200 times, but answers are "only" 27.)

Thank you all - I'll leave the questionnaire open for a while.

(I am pleased with this experiment:-)
