Harkon72 Posted September 9, 2012 Posted September 9, 2012 Which way do you hold your knuckles when punching the face?Do you hold them horizontal or flat as you would to punch the body?Or do you hold them vertical, sun fist style? In our style we punch jodan with a vertical lined fist. You seem to make contact with the knuckles whatever the height of your opponent. We still use the two larger knuckles, and to the nose/face area it seems to cover more of the target. Maybe a flat fist is more precise but it can leave more margin to miss a moving target. What are your thoughts? Look to the far mountain and see all.
FangPwnsAll7 Posted September 9, 2012 Posted September 9, 2012 I hold them horizontal. Tang Soo Do - Red Belt (2nd GUP)
shinobitribe Posted September 14, 2012 Posted September 14, 2012 It would actually depends on the distancing... if your opponent is too close then you would use a flat fist ( shita zuki). close- medium distance - vertical fist ( tate zuki) and normal distance - fully rotated fist ( gyaku zuki or oi zuki)
Elijah A Elliott Posted October 9, 2012 Posted October 9, 2012 In our academy we are taught to have the fist vertical when punching to the face, this helps to avoid bending the wrist awkwardly apparently.I find this the best way of punching to the face.
tallgeese Posted October 10, 2012 Posted October 10, 2012 It's about matching weapons to targets. As shinobi points out, distance is one factor that effects this. So will angles between you and the target, the dynamics of your movement and his. Relative heights and stances. All sorts of things. Whatever fits best that will allow me to deliver damage. http://alphajiujitsu.com/https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCJhRVuwbm__LwXPvFMReMww
Kuma Posted October 10, 2012 Posted October 10, 2012 I was actually taught for jodan tsuki that the ideal positioning of my fist was 45 degrees, halfway between horizontal and vertical.
darksoul Posted October 10, 2012 Posted October 10, 2012 I try to angle the knuckles to cause the most damage. Shodan - Shaolin Kempo███████████████▌█
Nevinyrral Posted October 10, 2012 Posted October 10, 2012 I do it horizontal. I think it all depends of how were you taught A style is just a name.
straightblast Posted October 10, 2012 Posted October 10, 2012 I do a 45, however I would be considered wrong in my old karate class. Enter-pressure-terminate
Harkon72 Posted October 10, 2012 Author Posted October 10, 2012 I use the 45 degree punch to the body, it presents the knuckles better. Look to the far mountain and see all.
