judobrah Posted September 10, 2012 Author Posted September 10, 2012 OSU! There you go!My suggestions- make absolutely certain you have your wrist straight while punching, and that your elbows aren't winging out, when you're hitting the bag. I use MMA gloves when I hit the bag a lot, because otherwise I start to lose the skin from my punching knuckles... or I used to. I think they are probably fine now, hah! Start light, and over the weeks gradually go harder. The reason for this is simple- you are not just learning to hit well, you are also conditioning and strengthening your wrists and arms. To not injure yourself, you want to take your time conditioning them to get them used to the impact. It's a different kind of strengthening.Do push-ups. Lots of push-ups. Not normal military style, but knuckle push-ups. Have your hands shoulder-width apart, not really any wider. When you go down, keep your ELBOWS IN so they brush across your ribs. If you can, touch your nose to the floor and come back up. Make sure your back and legs are straight the entire time, with your head looking down. No bowing or arching your back, no sticking your behind up in the air! Instead of having your palms flat, make fists, and rest them on the ground on the points of your two punching knuckles, as seen on this picture of my Sensei's hand next to my hand.http://www.niceboots.org/~evergrey/Kyokushin/knuckles.jpg(It's the red knuckles, lol)This will not only help with your punching muscles, but it will ALSO strengthen your wrists.yeah i had a time, when i did like 400 push ups in one training sectionknuckle push ups are good too,but i will mostly be focusing on lifting weigths, since whe already do push ups 2x a week,i will just stick to that and train chest with weights,i really have to sort something outbut yeah,my aim is to big and strong, even too i do know and accept the fact that having a certain ammount of muscle mass, can harm you in some habilities, but its ok with mebut yeah, you know i am thinking about creating a striking place in my grandmother house, whe have a lot of space there, and i will create some homemade pads, some ones to focus on low kicks, other in head strikes, and others in strikes to the torso,it will take a lot of work thats for shure, but it will be worth itso yeah man, lifting weights+goju ryu 2x/week+training by myselfi wont focus a lot on cardio trough since whe already do it in class, and i will always push myself to a certain limit when hes training me,enough about me,how about you?how is your typical kyokushin class like?how much do you spar?what techniques have you learned, and wich one do you master the best?and is it correct that kyokushin is pretty much-a lot of body punches(punches to the torso)-lots of powerfull kicks, like low kicks, round kicks to the head and torso, front kicks and some unorthodox kicks, like spinning kicks and axe kicks and such?-all of this+ some other strikes like knee strikes, elbows e.t.c?anyway i hope you are very sucefful in kyokushinosu!
Harkon72 Posted September 10, 2012 Posted September 10, 2012 I do pushups using pushup bars. Your fists are 3" off the ground so your chest goes lower than your hands. You can turn the bars horizontal too, giving a different exercise. To further condition my forearms I do finger tip pushups; this helps with finger strikes and claw grabs. Look to the far mountain and see all.

Harkon72 Posted September 10, 2012 Posted September 10, 2012 When I go lower than my hands with the bars I have found it a great benefit as you fully extend your chest. When you have your fingers holding your weight, each tendon connected to your knuckles all the way to your elbow is conditioned. It's a good workout to use less fingers too; there is a famous picture of Bruce Lee doing index finger and thumb pushups. I can only do a few of those. Look to the far mountain and see all.

judobrah Posted September 11, 2012 Author Posted September 11, 2012 http://www.kyokushin.pt/Have you contacted Kyokushin Portuguese Honbu to confirm your closest Kyokushin DojoOSUi apreciate the answer, but you are the second person to give me that link and i had found about it before, but no,around my area there is nothingmy only option is to wait when i am out of this house(wich will take more then 5 years most likely),and when i am making my own money,i can start doing kyokushinuntil there,i will train hard in goju ryu,and i hope i will made it too at least a blue belt, even too the belts in this place are very hard to attain unless you are a kid(some 14 year old dude, only got to green belt in about 3-4 years of training)i enjoy the fact that i will train hard, since it his very personnal, and the intensity is a result of your personnal discypline in the trainingbut never the less,i will train on my own, practise tehcniques in the pads and bags
Dobbersky Posted September 11, 2012 Posted September 11, 2012 God luck Judobrah, Goju is a hard style and it was good enough for Oyama Sosai to train and get 8th Dan in OSU "Challenge is a Dragon with a Gift in its mouth....Tame the Dragon and the Gift is Yours....." Noela Evans (author)
judobrah Posted September 11, 2012 Author Posted September 11, 2012 God luck Judobrah, Goju is a hard style and it was good enough for Oyama Sosai to train and get 8th Dan in OSUhaha, thanks i have noticed that the blocks are usually done with more power, and the condition is tougher, even too its the same teacher,it seems they go harder in the trainingand yeah, didnt mas oyama call goju ryu guys ballerinas?lol,i heard that somwhere i doubt its true troughand yeah for shure,i am more into harder styles of karate, but it seems that karate is one art that will take a really long time to learn(to use it in a effective way in a real scenario),so i should get going, that doesnt mean i will stop practise some basic boxing combos in the bag trough
evergrey Posted September 12, 2012 Posted September 12, 2012 OSU,I hadn't heard that quote, but what I do know is that Sosai had a deep respect for dancers, and said that they made the best fighters, because of their sense of rhythm and grace. ;}OSU! http://kyokushinchick.blogspot.com/"If you can fatally judo-chop a bull, you can sit however you want." -MasterPain, on why Mas Oyama had Kyokushin karateka sit in seiza with their clenched fists on their thighs.
darksoul Posted September 12, 2012 Posted September 12, 2012 Late reply about the knuckle pushups, but one of my students had some pretty terrible punches. Like if he ended up hitting someone, he would hit with the 2nd set of knuckles. Basically his fist was bent upwards. So I made him do knuckle pushups. His wrists were too weak to even do one, so I got him started on doing them against a wall, and eventually from the ground on his knees, and now to full on knuckle pushups. His punches are flawless now. Every single time he hits a pad, he gets those nice 2 little knuckle indents. Shodan - Shaolin Kempo███████████████▌█
