Yes, you can argue that it could have gone different, one could comment on the attitude. However, I have to give him props for situational awareness and aggressive, preemptive action that turned the tide.

Could be, but the whole truth being stranger than fiction is often correct. If it is staged, it will come out. I kind of doubt that they'd run the risk of being caught in a story like that though.

On the other hand it'd be difficult if not impossible to confirm it as a hoax. From what he wrote it sounds a tad fishy and even if what he did write was true it sounds bad on his end.

That's exactly what I though. That is not the way a martial artist should act. It just plain disrespectful to the art.

Seems like a hoax to me, either that or he is really stupid. Narrating the fight as it's taking place? Either he's that cocky that he's stupid enough to whip out his phone between punches or someone's just making this up.

Great situational awareness about noticing the guys in the first place, but then going round the block to find the 2nd guy and choking him out 3 times and punching him while he's unconscious? Seriously? Good thing the would-be muggers are law-abiding citizens and weren't carrying guns or knives.

Just makes him come across as a thug. No matter how good he is at BJJ if this stuff is true my respect for him has just plummeted.

I also kind of like the idea that if someone was trying to mug him, he was able to make them look and feel like fools. In my experience, bad things don't happen to bad people often enough.

I see where you are coming from. The act of beating up some muggers (if it is true) and making them pay for it isn't what I think comes off bad, it is tweeting it (or whatever) and showing it off as if he is some kind of hero that makes me cringe.

Both grapplers and fighters in general already have a pretty thugish tough guy reputation to begin with, he is just perpetuating it and making the rest of us look bad.
