evergrey Posted August 24, 2012 Posted August 24, 2012 OSU,I had 9 fights tonight, and 1 kata.I can't remember a bunch of it! Actually, I couldn't remember a THING about the kata, even the moment after I finished it!Anyone have this happen?I admit that I did also pass out at this grading, a little bit. Blacked out anyway. It was after I'd done my 5 rounds of kumite in a row. My lungs are messed up because of my asthma being aggravated by a refinery fire in my town, and I am VERY prone to heat stroke and heat exhaustion. Everything was fuzzy and grey by the end of my 5th round, and I couldn't think. I could barely stand. My Sensei had to guide me out of the ring and back to my seat on the mat. Once I sat down, I got REALLY REALLY hot and my blood was pounding... then I stopped feeling hot and stopped sweating, and everything went grey, then black. Somehow I didn't fall over, lol! Good thing, because the kid next to me was really really tiny.I didn't get hit in the head very hard at any point, no concussion or anything like that, just... can't remember a lot of it.I've forgotten chunks of my gradings before too though. Sometimes it happens when I meditate a lot before going up to do my kata or kumite. I'm just sort of... I don't know. Gonzo? My mind is just not there. I don't think, I just... DO. And then I cannot remember it.Is this at all familiar to anyone, or is it just me?Oh, I was testing for my 5th kyu. My dojo is weird in some ways, and one of those ways is not telling us if we passed or not right away. Not sure when I'll find out, hah!OSU! http://kyokushinchick.blogspot.com/"If you can fatally judo-chop a bull, you can sit however you want." -MasterPain, on why Mas Oyama had Kyokushin karateka sit in seiza with their clenched fists on their thighs.
DoctorQui Posted August 24, 2012 Posted August 24, 2012 All the time, often, right in the middle of a kata!I also get amnesia and nerves before and during gradings...its pretty natural by all accounts but I never notice anyone else doing it! But then, my mind reading skills aren't what they used to be OSU
darksoul Posted August 24, 2012 Posted August 24, 2012 I don't remember a good portion of my black belt test. Almost nothing of my 1st Kyu test. Bits and pieces are missing from my 2nd kyu test. Don't remember ANYTHING about my 3rd kyu test. Some might be just time passing, but a lot of it is just... I don't know... the tests themselves. It's massive physical and mental stress y'know. blacknebula Posted August 24, 2012 Posted August 24, 2012 Yes, and tournaments too. The first time I competed I was completely unable to even remember who my opponent had been an hour later!
evergrey Posted August 24, 2012 Author Posted August 24, 2012 Haha, glad to know it's not just me! http://kyokushinchick.blogspot.com/"If you can fatally judo-chop a bull, you can sit however you want." -MasterPain, on why Mas Oyama had Kyokushin karateka sit in seiza with their clenched fists on their thighs.
sensei8 Posted August 24, 2012 Posted August 24, 2012 For me, every testing cycle was like having an out of the body experience; remembering what happened before, during, and after is nothing more than a blur. However, that's when I try to remember the good things, but the bad things, like forgetting the most mundane things and forgetting the most important things, I remember most of them because Dai-Soke was intolerant with things like that, and he'd let you know immediately...and if it was bad enough...he'd stop the test and fail you right then and there. **Proof is on the floor!!!
DWx Posted August 25, 2012 Posted August 25, 2012 I think it must be the stress. I usually can't remember what I did in tournaments and when I come off the mats and watch back any videos I always have a "did that really just happen?" moment "Everything has its beauty, but not everyone sees it." ~ Confucius
JusticeZero Posted August 26, 2012 Posted August 26, 2012 Most of the more involved jogos I have, I can't remember the details of. I know I was present and busily working through it, so i'm not worried; I chalk it up to not wanting to spare the bandwidth to encode the information while i'm busy dodging kicks. It really does feel like an encoding issue more than a lack of memory; I remember being in the match, but the information of what happenned during the match is not stored in a way that is able to be decoded and examined. ShotokanMaster Posted March 8, 2013 Posted March 8, 2013 I never had amnesia when im belt tetsing but i know as soon as i reach black belt its gonna be hard when i reach purple belt i have to write down the techniques because i have to do 4 techniques to a lunch punch to the face and 4 technique to a lunch punch in the chest and 4 techniques to the kick so ya I love Shotokan Karate Do and American Kenpo Karate
Tkdampbjj Posted March 8, 2013 Posted March 8, 2013 I have never had this with grading but as others have said often experience this with competing. i usually only remember bits an pieces of my matches.
