Wastelander
I assume you are talking about competitive kata performance? If that is the case, then any custom-tailored heavyweight gi is generally the best because it will look and sound the best when you perform. People also often use longer than normal gi tops for that because it helps the stances look lower. For practicing kata for any other reason, just something comfortable and durable that fits properly so it doesn't bunch up or catch on things. Harkon72
An Okinawa cut Gi, with shorter leg and sleeve looks better in my opinion to perform kata. I don't like a long jacket that sticks out like a the skirt of a cocktail dress, especially on a male kartateka. The sound of cotton is one thing, just don't look as if the Gi is too big for you. Look to the far mountain and see all.
brickshooter
Take any clean white Gi. Then starch it multiple times. Voila - a gi that talks as you walk. You may have to request that Judges put on their ear protectors before performing a Kata.

wagnerk
Mine is one of these Arawaza Emerald but with black 12oz pants from another brand. My current one is the Arawaza Topaz Gi, I prefer that to the regular Gi's more because it soaks up sweat better during class than the lightweight Gi's.I did use to have the Adidas Vented Gi (using "adidas's Climacool technology") but while it did improve air circulation within the Gi compared to other light weight Gi (as the one I had was the lightweight version), the Gi still ended up being drenched. Maybe the middle weight or the heavy weigh one would have been better???But at the end of the day it does depend on how you train and what you're looking for in a Gi (after all what may suit one person may not suit another) Tang Soo Do: 3rd Dan '18Shotokan Karate: 2nd Dan '
