I am going to buy the spiral rattan bo. I like the way it looks when it spins and it looks like it has pretty nice control. I am also going to buy a hardwood straight bo. Any one have those and what is your opinion.

I have both (as well as a heavy untapered hardwood bo), and they all serve a purpose.

I use my heavy bo for kata practice and for speed/strength training, so when i pick up the other two I can move them quicker and more precisely.

I use the rattan bo for two person drills and actually hitting other weapons, as they damage less than hardwood.

All in all, I would say get both.

Do you think your kata looks better with the spiral bo since it is lighter and the design

Well, I would suggest you get both. Use the heavy one to practice the kata and perform with the rattan bo, as it is a bit lighter. Not only do you get a cool design, but it will be faster.

the best way.....use the heavy one to practice and show off with the light and pretty one..... it's the magic trick....
