darksoul Posted August 7, 2012 Posted August 7, 2012 If they don't behave... being the demo dummyI love being the demo dummy. It's a privilege! I don't think you can even get to black belt in Kempo without being the punching bag once or... ok... many times Shodan - Shaolin Kempo███████████████▌█
FangPwnsAll7 Posted August 7, 2012 Author Posted August 7, 2012 We usually used the older kids as punching dummies... most of the time it was me. xD Tang Soo Do - Red Belt (2nd GUP)

I don't think you can even get to black belt in Kempo without being the punching bag once or... ok... many times I was always very tall when I was young. I was 6 feet+ in 7th grade, which meant I was the perfect size to be my instructor's Demonstration Victim. After a while, it became fun to see how many different ways Sensei can hurt you. It's the best way to learn a technique, in my opinion. Unfortunately, now I am taller than most of the instructors, which makes it difficult for me to be their dummy. I can remember one of them joking about how they worry that one day I will return 7 feet tall to get my revenge... Van
bushido_man96 Posted August 7, 2012 Posted August 7, 2012 I don't think the gi is being disrespected; what you do have, are some kids with some uncontrolled actions, and it sounds like the instructor(s) need to get things under control. How old are the kids do the meditation? Depending on the age, I don't think I would try to introduce a concept like that. Kids just don't have the attention span for it. https://www.haysgym.comhttp://www.sunyis.com/https://www.aikidoofnorthwestkansas.com

Kuma Posted August 8, 2012 Posted August 8, 2012 Your gi top can come open through hard training or whatnot. As long as you occasionally try to fix it it's not a big deal. Same with rolled sleeves - don't see a big problem with it.The other stuff is kids without proper supervision.
JusticeZero Posted August 8, 2012 Posted August 8, 2012 Honestly, a few years ago you were probably the same way. O:-) People arent born thinking like adults. If you use the analogy of the brain being like a computer, for kids, they just order the bare minimum and start it up, then have to wait for other parts to "arrive" with age. As the new pieces come on line, it is hard to imagine what it is like not to have them; behavior that was once completely reasonable is suddenly "What the... what are you DOING?!?"At this point it is probably time to move up to the new class. FangPwnsAll7 Posted August 8, 2012 Author Posted August 8, 2012 I guess you could say that. I still act a bit immature at sometimes, but not as bad though. My instructor told me I can start going to the adult classes starting tomorrow. Tang Soo Do - Red Belt (2nd GUP)
evergrey Posted August 9, 2012 Posted August 9, 2012 Woohoo! You may have to step up your own personal discipline, but I think you'll find it to be a whole new level of training, and as you're quite dedicated, I think that you will find it to be very rewarding as well. Congrats! Now, if the adults pick their noses and wipe it on their dogi, then there's a problem. ;} http://kyokushinchick.blogspot.com/"If you can fatally judo-chop a bull, you can sit however you want." -MasterPain, on why Mas Oyama had Kyokushin karateka sit in seiza with their clenched fists on their thighs.
FangPwnsAll7 Posted August 9, 2012 Author Posted August 9, 2012 Yeah. I can't wait to see how different it is from the children class, even though it's probably the same thing with an age difference. I'm the youngest person in the adult class I heard, but don't mind... in fact, I like it. Tang Soo Do - Red Belt (2nd GUP)
