bushido_man96 Posted June 21, 2012 Posted June 21, 2012 Great posts. I can't add much to them. As far as "learning more advanced stuff" goes...it really has more to do with fine tuning the basics, which ends up being the advanced stuff. The advanced guys make the basics look easy, becauase that's what they do all the time. https://www.haysgym.comhttp://www.sunyis.com/https://www.aikidoofnorthwestkansas.com

shanny_kimura Posted March 9, 2013 Posted March 9, 2013 Why study more than one style? The style doesn't make the man; the man makes the style.I agree but if you love MA and want to learn as much arts as you can that isn't bad, what interested me most is I wanted to learn where each and every art I train in came from. Who started it, where did it come from, why was it started etc. I train in 10 diff arts but I'm a Gracie Jiu-Jitsu guy. No disrespect to all the other arts but that's what I blended in the most effectively and faster. I still train Kyokushin, & Shotokan, Judo and all the other arts that been in my life and basically saved my life. But knowing more knowledge doesn't hurt. Gracie Jiu-Jitsu black belt - Kodokan Judo 2nd Dan black belt - ITF TaeKwonDo black belt - Kyokushin Karate black belt - Shotokan Karate black belt - Kenpo Karate 4th Dan black belt - Yoshinkan Aikido brown belt

ps1 Posted March 11, 2013 Posted March 11, 2013 Welcome to the forums! There is a complete difference in training Karate v Muay Thai. Muay Thai is, like boxing, a sport. That's all it ever was. So training it for a short time is acceptable, like most sports. If you research Muay Thai you'll see that most of the people that train and fight regularly, especially in Thailand, are very young (under 25 yrs old) and have very short careers. The highest goal of most MT practitioners is to gain enough notoriety and wins that people want to train with him when he retires. Karate Do is not meant to be trained that way. Certainly it can be trained this way, but this is not it's purpose. Therefore "doing karate" to supplement your Muay Thai is kind of a waste of time. If you take it up under that sort of premise, you're unlikely to glean anything useful from it. Karate is meant to be a way of life. So how long do you do it? How long do you breathe? "It is impossible to make anything foolproof because fools are so ingenius."

barrypardue Posted March 25, 2013 Posted March 25, 2013 You never stop learning, but you might have an edge on a newbie if you have previous martial arts experience in another style. Martial Arts is not just a hobby, Its a way of life!!!
