philippine arts

Recommended Posts

I would like to endorse the Philippine arts as a stand alone art, not just a weapon system. Yes, they start you off with a weapon and you work your way up to empty hand.

Doce Pares for example is a multiple system art that covers, stick, knife, empty hand and grappling. Such as the other cultral arts that have threads, I think the Philippine arts need to be represented.

Its more than just an add on art and needs to be promoted.

If we had a dedicated FMA school nearby, I'd visit them when I could. I've done some Inosanto blend from old tapes, played with Vunak's material, and some of the Dog Brothers' Kali Tudo stuff. I had a chance to spend a day with an instructor from the Angel Cabelas system. Ever been welted by foam covered plastic? Great experience.

I'd love to see more FMA presence here. I enjoy aspects of all arts, but I love my blades.

I have trained substantially in Modern Arnis - and agree, the systems are stand alone.

They encompass much more than just stick fighting. Unfortunately its down to general perception, which is plugged as weapons in almost every MA magazine and even in movies.
