Karateka_latino Posted August 30, 2002 Posted August 30, 2002 I don't know if this was posted here before but here its anyway. Royce Gracie lose to Judo Expert Yoshida in a Pride event in Japan by GI Choke. Now, of course, there IS controversy as usual. Some says that Royce DID tap, the Gracie Corner say he DIDN'T tap and the referee stopped because Gracie was in a bad position. TV camaras didn't clearly shoot any taping by Royce. It says that there will be a Rematch and im not sure if its Oficial, but seems that Pride organization is going to change the result to a NO Contest.
BlueDragon1981 Posted August 30, 2002 Posted August 30, 2002 Gracies are getting to much into there no loss thing. Rickson I think is the only one who truly won all his fights. Royce was good but its possible for him to lose.
Karateka_latino Posted August 30, 2002 Author Posted August 30, 2002 I respect the Gracies, but i don't like the fact they don't never say they were defeated. Renzo Gracies is the only who accept when he lose, no Excuses. "got my butt kicked, i'll be better prepared for the next one" period. that is a good attitude. When other Gracies lose Ohhhh, too much weight advantage, the time limits, referee bad calls, no enough time to train for the fight, etc, etc, etc... and a world of excuses.

Kensai Posted August 30, 2002 Posted August 30, 2002 Hurray the GRACIES keep losing. Ever heard of the the Gracie killer? Perhaps they can get off their horse, unfortunately the horse died years ago, along with the respect that other MA gave to BJJ. Take Care.
moobrack Posted August 30, 2002 Posted August 30, 2002 The Judo expert retired from professional judo 4 years ago, and defeated Gracie with a choke hold 7.24 minutes into the first round when gracie was unconscious! EndZone Freestyle Fighter Posted August 31, 2002 Posted August 31, 2002 The GRACIES are skilled, but by no means invincible. They seem to think that everytime they they come close, or DO lose.... somethign is 'unfair'. They need to stop with the excusses.... SUCK IT UP PRINCESS.... ZeRo Posted August 31, 2002 Posted August 31, 2002 oh my god if you lose cope with it! i mean i know they've got a reputation but losing once doesnt mean your bad it just means you've found someone better.
three60roundhouse Posted August 31, 2002 Posted August 31, 2002 Woah, Kensai take a deep breath there. No one slams O Sensei on this board, but maybe if you aren't a little more respectful to perfectly legit and capable martial artists like the Gracies, we will have to. As for the tap, there was none. At all. Even the ref said there was no tap. The referee has the right to stop a match if he thinks one of the participants is about to get seriously injured (for instance when someone's arm breaks, they stop. When someone passes out, they stop.) Usually, the fight isn't ended on a choke until someone passes out. Royce Gracie would NEVER tap. He is way to egotistical (IMHO). He would rather pass out. And why not, there's a lot riding on the match and you won't get seriously hurt from a collar choke. Now, I saw many pictures of the match. I am not a huge Royce fan. It didn't look like the choke was that tight. Yoshida was looking at the ref like he thought Gracie was going to pass out, the ref ends the match, Royve is seemingly unharmed. Yoshida dominated the game, but Royce is notorious from finishing fights from underneath (in the guard). It has been officially declared a no contest, OBVIOUSLY the Japanese officials realized it was a BAD CALL, nothing more. Or was it more? Yoshida has the potential to be the new Sakuraba, so if he wins the match, the Japanese have a new hero person to defeat the Gracies. I personally don't buy it but a lot of Brazilian fans do. This particular fight just got messed up by a bad call. It could have been more, but honestly I don't think Royce would have tapped. It shouldn't have been stopped, probably, but think of all the pressure on the referees. If someone gets really hurt, who do they blame? I also didn't like the rules of this match, I thought they were a little odd. But, Royce agreed to them. He also didn;t complain about him, only Brazilian fans did. I think the fans make Gracies God-like, not the fighters themselves. There seems to be so much hostility towards them. Royce is definitely the most influential martial artist of the 90's. He is also past his prime. Give up the respect, even if he was totally dominated in that fight (with a gold medal judoka). I can;t wait to see the fight on PPV! 1st dan Tae Kwon DoYellow Belt Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu16 Years OldGirls kick butt!
Wado Guy Posted September 1, 2002 Posted September 1, 2002 I have nothing but respect for the Gracies and BJJ. In fact, I hope to be able to study BJJ someday. In pre fight interviews with Royce Gracie, he stated that he wanted to fight Yoshida in order to honor his father Helio (who is about to turn 90) who fought the Japanese Judo champ Kimura 50 years ago. Now....no disprect inteded here ..but...Royce apparently shoved the ref after the call and was saying some rather not so nice things. What a way to honor your father and sensei by acting like a complete jack*ss in front of over 90,000 Japanese fans.
