This might help you a little more BarbedTerror, as I'm in Canberra as well.

My dojo is full-time (but non-profit) and dedicated to the teaching of Okinawan Karate. We have 5 scheduled classes per week, plus extra classes and seminars every now and then.

We only have two fees, both per month:

$60 - once per week

$90 - unlimited training

That means classes range from $14 - $4 per class depending on how many classes you attend.

Additionally, once you reach a certain grade/trust you get access to the dojo 24/7.

Hope this helps you get a better comparison.

I clean the dojo. :}

MAN! Lucky! I do graphic design work for my dojo and assistant teach from time to time. I do this and more free of charge because my goal is not to make money, but to help the dojo. Even so, I often wonder if I am expected to pay for classes or not. Every time I consider inquiring about stopping the $90 a month I pay for training, I just imagine my elderly sensei and can't do it. This month I am beyond broke though, so it's tempting.

I pay $69 a month and I have an option of training four times a week. I also help with the kids classes and the give me a couple of bucks for my time. (I never asked for the money, it was just given)

OSU, I am very lucky to have such good and kind-hearted instructors, who are in turn lucky to have full time jobs that are not related to the dojo. I would give so much more, too, if I could. I've never made demands, however. I was invited to train here. I thanked them for the honor of the invitation, and then admitted (rather embarrassed) that I couldn't afford to do it. They insisted I come train anyway. <3

Here in Montréal, Master Paquette does the whole summer for $130. I'll find out about autumn and winter classes when those seasons arrive.
