KickChick Posted August 30, 2002 Posted August 30, 2002 I've given him the address of the school and the times, also the phone number of the instructor. ... I believe you did more than enough in doing this for the guy. As a beginner I would have suggested to him that he needs formal training before he can train informally with the likes of you and your mates .... just for his "safety", mind you .... has you come off looking like the good guy that you are ... (... and not nasty at all! ) Doesn't sound like he's truly serious any way so spend no time worrying about him.
LeaF Posted August 30, 2002 Posted August 30, 2002 nah Bon you ain't nasty you did the right thing. If I don't like someone the last thing I want is for them to be training with me. And I understand completely how you keep school and training separate, I am the exact same way Goju Ryu Karate-do and Okinawan Kobudo, 17 Years Old 1st kyu Brown Belt in in Goju Ryu Karate-do, & Shodan in Okinawan KobudoGiven enough time, any man may master the physical. G95champ Posted August 31, 2002 Posted August 31, 2002 Bon I agree KickChick you have done your part. 1. You are not the teacher. Even if you was you have the right not to train someone if you see fit. You don't have to give reason. I have told people who came to class before NO because they had a rep. for fighting and stuff. 2. Way too many people teach before they are ready. I don't think you can set and age on it. its more a mental thing, I think. However if you feel you are not ready to teach don't and more importantly if you do not want to teach don't. I assume the guys you are training with are about your rank and you all have worked together a lot in and out of class thats is not teaching that is practice. To bring a rookie into that situation you would be doing him a great injustice. (BTW you see to have a lot of knowledge and one day you will make a fine teacher if you choose that path Im sure) Just learn some kata.... LOL (General George S. Patton Jr.) "It's the unconquerable soul of man, and not the nature of the weapon he uses, that ensures victory."
Red J Posted August 31, 2002 Posted August 31, 2002 Bon, you did more than you needed to. If you really wanted to be nasty you wouldn't have talked to him in the first place. You obviously have his number and you don't owe him anything. I think that you went out of your way to give him the name of the school, times and phone number. Perhaps he will join and take advantage of MA. Next time he tries to pin you down, remember sometimes less is best. If you want to keep the private deal private, then by not mentioning it would have avoided that situation. I think that you were trying to be polite and he surprised you. Don't sweat it! I had to lose my mind to come to my senses.
ZeRo Posted August 31, 2002 Posted August 31, 2002 i think you did the right thing. if he is commited then he will be able to train, if he isnt then fine.
