scohen.mma Posted May 13, 2012 Posted May 13, 2012 i made a really bad mistake and dropped out of highschool to get a job so i could help my family with the money issue that we were going through. I've always wanted to join the Navy, but i know i cant do that without a high school degree of some kind. is there any possible way to join any branch of the military, no matter what the duty is, without a highschool degree? i know this is a dumb question, but maybe theres some info out there that i dont know of. please dont judge, please dont make fun. i didnt have much of a choice. thanks in advance. JusticeZero Posted May 13, 2012 Posted May 13, 2012 Well I do know that it is possible to get a GED, which is basically a set of tests to demonstrate that you know what you were supposed to have learned in high school. This might require some study, and there are programs to help study for it. A GED is the same as a diploma for all intents and purposes, and if you do any sort of education after it, it's only the latest education that matters. Evil Dave Posted May 13, 2012 Posted May 13, 2012 Your best bet is to sit down with a recruiter, only they can give you the up to date information, and if you do not meet the current prereq's they will inform you on what you need to do for what you are looking for. That's more then just 'joining' the Navy, what do you want to do in the Navy?At the same time work on getting your GED, as the majority of good jobs out there require a basic level of education.
sensei8 Posted May 13, 2012 Posted May 13, 2012 I concur with the GED idea. Good luck and please keep us posted. **Proof is on the floor!!!
JusticeZero Posted May 13, 2012 Posted May 13, 2012 Honestly if you don't get into the navy as soon as you take care of the GED, you should go for a bachelors' degree, as that is the minimum level of education to get by these days. "Anything worth doing is worth doing badly." - Baleia

However, I concur with JusticeZero because a degree is better than no degree, imho. **Proof is on the floor!!!
JusticeZero Posted May 14, 2012 Posted May 14, 2012 yeah; there are a lot of jobs I was able to get when I got out of high school some years back that i would have had no chance to get nowadays without a four year degree. Then, my high school classes on the subject were enough. now, no college diploma puts my application in the trash unread. "Anything worth doing is worth doing badly." - Baleia
